Ghosts, goblins, and all things spooky will
be found at the Canton Leisure Services
13th annual Trick or Treat Parade from 4-7
p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. This fun family tra-
dition will take place at the Summit on the
Park, located at 46000 Summit Parkway.
The Summit will be decorated for the
event including dozens of themed stations
which will be set up for ages 12 and under.
Two "path" options will again be offered giv-
ing trick-or-treaters age-appropriate
themed stations to choose from. Younger
trick-or-treaters will enjoy visiting with
characters, including: the Disney
Princesses, Pete the Cat, and Bartlett the
Township Beaver. Those who dare visit the
spooky trail may just spot a wicked witch
along the way or a zombie on the prowl. The
event provides great photo opportunities,
organizers said.
Presale tickets will be available at the
Summit on the Park Front Desk through
Oct. 29. These tickets are for designated
times minimizing waiting in line for
exhibits. Presale tickets are limited and will
be available on a first-come, first-served
basis. Presale tickets are $2. All general
admission tickets purchased at the door will
cost $5 for Canton residents. Please have
proof of residencywhenpurchasing tickets.
New this year is a costume contest for the
cutest, scariest andbest group costumes.

Annual Halloween Parade
planned at ‘Spooky Summit’
Scott Herrold, a 1998 graduate
of SalemHigh School, and former
WSDP student, was honored by
Radio Ink magazine as one of
Radio'sRising Stars in the Sept. 16
edition.
This is he second year the mag-
azine has honored 30 broadcast-
ers under the age of 40. Radio Ink
is an industry trade publication
published bi-weekly for radio
management.
Herrold is currently the pro-
gramdirector andmorning host of
KSOS in Las Vegas. He programs
a network of 35 stations and man-
ages the new media platforms.
This year he was selected as a
board member for Christiana
Music Broadcasters, an organiza-
tion that connects broadcasters
with the Christian Music Industry.
KSOS was also honored by Radio
Ink for the Best Radio App in the
2012Digital Awards.
"WSDP is an amazing program
for students. I learned so much
about writing, speaking and tech-
nology through this program. Not
only did it introduce me to broad-
casting, but it set a foundation for
me that led to a job at 96.3 WDVD
right from high school. I hope the
community realizes the scope and
depth of theWSDP radio program
for students," Herrold said.
WSDP Station Manager Bill
Keith said he is not surprised by
the recognition received by
Herrold.
"He had an incredible under-
standing of radio as a high school
student. His passion for broadcast-
ing set him apart at a young age. I
knew he would do great things,"
Keith said.
Herrold is also amember of the
WSDP Alumni Advisory Team. He
continues to assist the student-run
stations with input for program-
ming, promotions and fundraising.
He also comes back to town to
speak to radio station staff mem-
bers and the high school

Honored
Nan Harrison Washburn, music director
and conductor of the Michigan
Philharmonic in Plymouth, has been
named winner of the American Prize in
Conducting - Professional Orchestra
Division, the Michigan Philharmonic
Announced last month. The American
Prize recognizes the best performing
artists, ensembles and composers in the
nation. In awarding her, a panel of
judges said Harrison Washburn's per-
formances are "sensitive, thoughtful, seri-
ous, gracious - words that mark her self-
evident musicality." This is Harrison
Washburn's 15th season with the
Michigan Philharmonic. Her next area
performance with the Michigan
Philharmonic is Oct. 6 at Canton's Village
Theatre at Cherry Hill, when the group
performs The Golden Flute. Tickets, $30,
