current and past members of the armed serv-

Mystery on TippingPoint stage
The Mystery of Irma Vep by Charles
Ludlam will be presented at the Tipping

Call for Crafters
The Delta Kappa Gamma Education
Society will host the annual juried
Handmade Only Craft Show on from 9 a.m.
until 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at West Middle
School inPlymouth.
Last year, the event attracted more than
1,500 customers.
Food will be available for purchase and
drawings for prizes are planned.

After school recreation programs offered
Registration is already under way for the
City of Wayne Department of Parks and
Recreation After School Recreation
Programs.
The programs usually take place on
Mondays and Wednesdays after school
hours. The department is offered a flag foot-
ball league from Sept. 21 until Oct. 25, a bas-
ketball league fromNov. 7 until Dec. 13 and a
dodge ball league fromJan. 18 until Feb. 15.
The program is designed for third and
fourth-grade students from Hoover,
Schweitzer, Roosevelt and Taft-Galloway ele-
mentary schools.

TownHall meeting planned
A city wide Town Hall meeting is planned
by the Inkster Task Force from 6-8 tonight at
the recreational complex, 2025 Middlebelt
Road.
The topic of the evening is under aged
drinking and there will be a youth panel dis-
cussion of the subject and a community ques-
tion and answer period.
Refreshments will be served and the
meeting is open to the public at no cost.
Youth from12-24 are asked to be prepared
with ideas to help prevent under aged drink-
ing and the best idea will receive a free gift
card.

Buffalo Soldiers ride in park
The Buffalo Soldiers will ride again at
high noon Oct. 1 along the trail at Nankin
Mills Park inWestland.
The inaugural equestrian ride along
Hines Drive will be sponsored by Wayne
County Parks and the Buffalo Soldiers
Heritage Center. Riders will begin at Nankin
Mills Park in Westland and travel along 6
traffic-free miles of Hines Drive starting at
NankinMills.
The best dressed horse will be awarded a
prize during the closing ceremonies at the
Nankin Mills Shelter. There is minimum
donation of $20 per horse.

Those who are not riders can bring a pic-
nic lunch and enjoy the 2 p.m. festivities at
the park. The Wayne County Mounted Unit

Motown comes toCanton
The Masters of Motown will perform at
The Village Theater at Cherry Hill at 8 p.m.
Oct. 7.
More than 50 years ago, Motown laid
down its first tracks and forever changed the
sound of American music. Celebrate the
music of these amazing artists, featuring styl-
ishly costumed, fully choreographed tributes
to "the greats" like The Four Tops, The
Temptations, Smokey Robinson & The
Miracles, Diana Ross, Martha Reeves and
others.

Beginner Genealogy class set
The Northville Genealogical Society will
sponsor a Beginner Genealogy class from 10
a.m. until noon Oct. 8 at the Northville
District Library, 212 West Cady St. in
Northville.
The free class will be presented by Linda
Last, a member of the Northville
Genealogical Society. Following the class,
there will be one-on-one computer lab help
and society members will be on hand to
assist withquestions.
The afternoon research will continue
until 3 p.m.

Church hosts card party, luncheon
A breast cancer awareness luncheon and
card party is planned at SS Simon and Jude
Church from1-4 p.m. Oct. 16.
Tickets are $8 per person and there will
be table anddoor prizes and a 50-50 raffle.

Road in Westland. All proceeds go to breast
cancer awareness.

The Paul Keller Orchestra, a 15-piece
big band, will play a concert at the First
UnitedMethodist Church in Plymouth at 4
p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2.
The orchestra is one of Michigan's
finest, most-respected and well-traveled
jazz big bands, a spokesperson said, and
has garnered great popular and critical
acclaim accepting the 1998 and 2000
Washtenaw Council for the Arts Awards
for Musical Excellence. The musicians
have recorded six CDs, enjoyed two
European tours, and performed at every
localmusic festival. The grouphas accom-
panied such great jazz artists as saxophon-
ists RedHolloway, Larry Nozero and Arno
Marsh, clarinetists Henry Questa, Jim
Wyse and Dave Bennett, drummer Jeff
Hamilton, trumpeters Fred Radke and
Walter White, vocalists Dee Dee
Bridgewater, Sunny Wilkinson, Mark
Randissi and The Four Freshmen, and
pianists James Dapogny, Ellen Rowe,
Charles Boles, Mr. B, Bob Seeley, Axel
Zwingenberg, and Eddie Russ. The group
performs every Monday night at Zal Gaz
Grotto located at 2070 W. Stadium on the
west side of AnnArbor.
This event is part of the NOTEworthy
"concerts with a cause" series of First
United Methodist Church. Admission is
free: a free-will offering will be received
to benefit world hunger and future
Noteworthy concerts.
