allowing voters to check their absentee
ballot as to when it is received by the local
clerk and when it is counted have really
improved voter trust in the system, she
said.
Craig Bragg added that the Michigan
Association of Municipal Clerks has been
lobbying legislators heavily to approve a
“no reason” absentee ballot, meaning that
the voter does not have to be older than 60,
handicapped or expecting to be out-of-
town onElectionDay to qualify.
“I think that would encourage even
more people to vote absentee,” Craig
Bragg said. “It really does make it easier
on the voter, but then again, many folks do
choose to come to the polls to cast their
votes.”
Both clerks reminded residents that
absentee ballots can be requested until
the day before the election but would have
to be filled out at city hall in that case.
Clerk's offices innearly everymunicipality
will be open Nov. 4, the Saturday prior to
the election. The last day to register to
vote isOct. 10.

The 50th Commemorative Picnic will
take place Sept. 30 at the Plymouth VFW
Post 6695, located at 1426 S. Mill St. This
event is free to all Vietnam veterans, and
their families, as a way to say thank you
for their service. A barbeque and family
activitieswill be included at the event.
There will be information about
Hepatitis-C, Agent Orange and other med-
ical conditions available along with facts
about benefits, veterans' services and an
Honor andRememberFlagCeremony.
The highlight of the event is expected
to be the presentation of 50th Vietnam
commemorative pins by Congressional
Medal of Honor recipient Charles Kettles.
The pins will be presented to every
Vietnamveteranwho attends.
