The American Association of University
Women Northville-Novi Branch will host the
17th annual Northville Home Tour from 10
a.m. until 4 p.m. onSaturday, Sept. 29.
The featured Northville homes this year
are widely different in architecture and inte-
rior design, span three centuries of construc-
tion and reflect how families have adapted to
21st century living in a community with a
Victorian village at its heart, a spokesperson
noted. Five homes will be on the tour.
Hostesses in each home will note architectur-
al features and special furnishings for visitors.
The Home Tour is the signature fund-rais-
ing event of AAUW Northville-Novi Branch.
Funds generated by the organization are used
to promote equity, education and develop-
ment of opportunities for all women in local,
national and international communities.
Scholarships are awarded to women/girls at
area community colleges and high schools.
The local branch also has a commitment to
the Mercy Education Project in Detroit and a
program of math enrichment, Let's Read
Math, offered to local second and third grade
students.

Double Up Food Bucks
Maybury Corn Maze opens
Canton Farmers Market is really offer-
ingmore for customer'smoney.
The market, as part of the Double Up
Food Bucks program sponsored by the
state, will match up to $20 in Bridge Card
purchases every market day for the pur-
chase ofMichigan-grownproduce.
The program is an initiative presented
of the Fair Food Network which encour-
ages healthier food choices for
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
ProgramBridgeCard recipients.
The Canton Farmers Market, which
takes place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. every
Sunday through Oct. 14 at Preservation
Park, is one of 70 Farmers Markets in
Michigan currently participating in the
DoubleUpFoodBucks program.
To take advantage of this program and
receive the dollar-for-dollar match, Bridge
Card holders can request tokens at the
Canton Farmers Market information table,
located on the back porch of the Bartlett-
TravisHouse.
Shoppers can then spend their Bridge
Card tokens with Canton Farmers Market
vendors on any eligible food item. Double
UpFoodBucks tokens can only be used for
Michiganproduce.
"Double Up Food Bucks is a great Fair
Food Network program that promotes
accessibility of healthy food," said Tina
Lloyd, Canton Farmers Market manager.
"At the market, we provide tips for stretch-
ing your dollars and storing produce safe-
ly."
Officially launched in August 2010, the
program continues to reach thousands of
Michigan residents while benefiting hun-
dreds of local farmers.
Canton Farmers Market also offers mar-
ket-goers free information and activities,
including entertainment, recipes, lawn
and garden advice, cooking demonstra-
tions, and kids' crafts.

This is the weekend many adventure
lovers in the areawait for all year.
The corn maze at Maybury Farm will
open during Farm Days at the facility,
which includes other demonstrations and
events for thewhole family.
According to Shari Peters, president of
the Northville Community Foundation
which operates the working farm, this
mazemay be the best one yet.
“This year's cornmaze is probably one of
themost challenging for us. MotherNature
dealt a cruel blow to all crops and cornwas
no exception. We still have a maze, a
hayride out to themaze and a hayride back
andwe know our guests will still have fun,”
Peters said.
She added that those who complete the
maze and find the hidden animals can then
spin the big prize wheel to win prizes. The
maze will open this Saturday, Sept. 29 and
continue every Friday, Saturday and
Sunday through Nov. 4. Groups of 15 or
more can scheduled special weekday tours
There will also be honey demonstra-
tions at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. this Saturday and
Sunday.
Visitors can also enjoy farm tours and
the newKidTrainwill be available.
“A visit to our Welcome Center is a
whole new experience where you will find
fresh vegetables, grown right on our farm,
as well as a host of different bread, muffin,
and cake mixes. We also have farm fresh
eggs daily and our own Maybury Farm
Honey from our bees on the farm,” Peters
said.
The corn maze is open from 6 until 10
p.m. Saturdays and 1-7 p.m. Sundays. The
last wagon leaves for the maze one hour
prior to close.
Parking is complimentary and admis-
sion is $5 per person. This includes the
farm, the expanded playground, hayride to
and from the maze, and the maze itself.
Those 2 and younger are admitted at no
cost.
