Car raffle under way
The Belleville Area Chamber of
Commerce is sponsoring a drawing for a 24-
month lease on a 2014 Ford Focus. Mileage
allowedwill be 10,500 per year.
The drawing will take place at the
Winterfest, on Saturday, Dec. 7. Ticket cost is
$20 each and only 1,000 tickets will be sold.
Odds of winning are better than winning the
lottery, according to chamber representa-
tives.
Tickets can now be purchased through
the Belleville Area Chamber of Commerce,
(734) 697-7151 to purchase tickets.
The office is located at 248 Main St. in
Belleville.
City seeks commission volunteers
The City of Plymouth is looking for volun-
teers to serve on various boards and commis-
sions. Plymouth has several citizen boards
and commissions that cover a wide range
topics such as the Downtown Development
Authority, the Planning Commission, the
Historic District Commission, Housing
Commission and others.
Some boards and commissions meet
monthly, some meet quarterly and some
meet only once a year. All positions are vol-
unteer and in most cases city residency is
required.

Fitness Trail Explosion set inWayne
The Wayne-Westland Parks and
Recreation Department is attempting to
raise awareness of the opportunities at the
Mill andWashington trails in the citywith the
Mill andWashingtonFitness Trail Explosion.
There are high and low fitness activities
and a nature scavenger hunt planned.
The events will take place beginning at
9:30 a.m. at GoudyPark, Saturday, Sept. 28.
The free Fitness Trail Explosion is for
those 5 or older.
The Nature Scavenger Hunt for those 3
and older will begin with check in at 10:45
a.m.
The event will includeNathanAdams, the
Wayne-Westland Parks andRecreation direc-
tor, Buddy Shuh and a trainer for Strength &
Spirit as instructors and Kurt Kuban will
lead theNatureScavengerHunt.

LadiesNight Out in Plymouth
Downtown Plymouth will host the Annual
Ladies Night Out from 5-9 p.m.tonight, Sept.
26.
This event is a night for ladies to enjoy an

Flashlight CandyHunt planned
The Wayne Westland parks and
Recreation Department is planning a
Flashlight Candy Hunt from 6-10 p.m. Sept.
28.
Children ages 6-13 can join recreation
staff members for a night of swimming,
games and the candy hunt at the Wayne
Community Center, 4635 Howe Road in
Wayne.
The cost is $13 per child for residents and
$16 per child for non-residents. Participants
must bring a lined bathing suit, towel, flash
light, tennis shoes and lots of energy, organiz-
ers said.

Airport hosts open house
The Canton-Plymouth Mettetal Airport
will host an open house from 10 a.m. until
3p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. Located at 8550 N.
Lilley Road at Joy Road, the general aviation
field is now operated by the Michigan
Department of Transportation.
There will be displays, vintage aircraft
and vendors. For novice flyers, discovery
flights will be available along with helicopter
rides. The airport has had considerable
updates and additional hangers are being
added.
The Experimental Aircraft Association
#113 will present their educational pro-
grams for young aviators. Rare model air-
craft and radio controlledhobby jetswill also
be showcased.
Mettetal Airport was started by Ralph
Mettetal in 1939 as a grass strip. Today, the
facility averages 85 take-offs and landings
per day and has strict noise abatement pro-
cedures.
Nature Trail activities set
The Wayne Westland Parks and
Recreation Department is planning a cele-
bration of Michigan Trails Week with a free
Fitness Trail Explosion for those 5 and older
on Sept. 28 at the lookout deck at Goudy
Park. The event begins at 10 a.m. and check-
inwill start at 9:30 a.m.
There will also be a Nature Scavenger
Hunt for those 3 and older the same day at
the park. Check in for that event will begin at
10:45 a.m. and thehunt will begin at 11 a.m.

Immunizations are offered
Flu and pneumonia immunizations will
be offered, by appointment only, from 10 a.m.
until 1 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Wayne Senior
Services office.
Flu shots are $25 and pneumonia shots
are $75. Both vaccinations are Medicare
Part-B covered, if Medicare is the primary
insurance carrier.
Some other insurance companies do
cover the inoculations. Patients should check
with their insurance carrier before any
scheduled appointment.

Job Fair scheduled
The Michigan Works Wayne Service
Center will host a Job Fair from 1-4:30 p.m.
Oct. 3.
More than 26 firms with job openings will
be at the event and attendees are advised to
come prepared to talkwith potential employ-
ers. Applicants should bring copies of
resumes andbe dressed for success.
The event will take place at the Town
Square Plaza, 35425 Michigan Ave. West in

HarlemAmbassadors to visit
Dazzling basketball-handling tricks, high-
flying slamdunks and hilarious family come-
dy are expected to entertain crowds when
the Harlem Ambassadors Basketball Show
visits theBellevilleHighSchool gymnasium.
The visit, sponsored by the Belleville Area
Chamber of Commerce, will take place
beginning at 7 p.m. Oct. 3.
The school is located at 501 W. Columbia
Ave., Belleville and theHarlemAmbassadors
will take on the hometown Chamber Tigers
again this year featuring local public offi-
cials, administrators and local celebrities
from Belleville, Sumpter and Van Buren
townships.

$10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and stu-
dents with a school identification, and $5 for
children ages 5-11.

Skeletons are celebrated
A ribbon-cutting to welcome the 55 life-
sized skeletons on display throughout down-
town Northville will take place at 6 p.m. Oct.
4 inTownSquare.
The ceremony will be followed by a free
concert featuring the band, Social Bones.
Chocolates benefit First Step
The 9th Annual Chocolate Affair and
Luncheon will take place beginning at noon
Oct. 6 at Laurel Manor Banquet and
ConferenceCenter.
The annual event is a fundraiser for First
Step, the program for counseling and emer-
gency housing for victims of domestic and
sexual violence.
Tickets for the luncheon, which will be
served fromnoonuntil 2 p.m. are $25. Tickets
for theChocolateAffair are also priced at $25
and the event will take place from2-5 p.m.
