Wayne County, in partnership with
Running Fit, is hosting the 2nd Annual
Heroes on Hines Half Marathon and 5K
Run, themorning of Saturday, Oct. 4.
Proceeds from the annual race will go
to support and maintain the First
Responders Memorial in Hines Park,
located at the corner of Hines Drive and
HaggertyRoad inPlymouthTownship.
"The memorial and the annual Heroes
on Hines race are powerful tributes that
honor the heroic men and women who
lost their lives while serving as first
responders in Wayne County," said Wayne
CountyExecutiveRobert Ficano.
TheHalf Marathon begins at 8 a.m. and
the 5K begins at 8:45 a.m. The registration
fee for the Half Marathon is $59 through
Oct. 2 and $70 on race weekend, Oct. 3 and
4. The registration fee for the 5K is $34
through Oct. 2 and $40 on race weekend,
Oct. 3 and 4. Entry fee includes a techni-
cal race shirt for all distances and finish-
er'smedal for halfmarathondistance.
The Heroes on Hines Half Marathon
and 5K Run offers an opportunity for reg-
istered participants to create teams to
compete against each other during race
challenges. First Responder divisions are
able to create their own teams for friendly
competition. Police, Fire and EMS
departments throughout the 43 Wayne
County communities can promote a
healthy lifestyle by gathering co-workers
to get fit, come out and show some team
spirit, officials said.
The Heroes on Hines course travels
through the western Wayne communities
of Plymouth andNorthville and the north-
west end of EdwardHines Drive. Both the
Half Marathon and 5K start and finish at
thememorial site.
The memorial contains 403 names of
police, fire and EMS personnel from the
Wayne County communities who died in
the line of duty. The memorial includes
monuments, seat walls, concrete walk-
ways, a paver plaza, site furnishings, plant-
ings aswell parking and lighting.

person who lawfully captures or destroys a wolf from prosecution.
Require a person who wishes to hunt wolves to obtain a wolf hunting license.
Create a Wolf Management Advisory Council for the purpose of making nonbinding rec-
ommendations to the legislature regarding the proper management of wolves.

Public Act 21 of 2013 would:
Allow the Natural Resources Commission (NRC) to designate animals as game for hunt-
ing purposes without legislative action.
Allow the NRC to establish the first open hunting season for newly designated game ani-
mals without legislative action.
Allow the NRC to schedule a wolf hunt.
Grant the Legislature the sole authority to remove a species from the list of designated
game animals.
Eliminate the $1.00 hunting and fishing licensing fee for members of the military, whether
stationed inside or outside of Michigan, subject to any lottery.
Give the NRC the sole authority to regulate fishing.

THE WAYNE COUNTY RETIREMENT COMMISSION
Section 6.112 of the Wayne County Home Rule Charter appoints the Wayne County
Executive and the Chairperson of the Wayne County Commission as members of the
Wayne County Retirement Commission. Section 6.112 authorizes the Wayne County
Executive to appoint a designee to represent him/her on the Retirement Commission.

ments when the value of the contracts or projects exceeds the amount set forth in the
City’s Purchasing Ordinance. The proposed amendment deletes the requirement for
newspaper publication of requests for sealed bids while retaining the requirement for
competitive bidding by sealed bid.

to be registered voters in the City of Romulus must possess the fol-
lowing qualifications on or before the day of the election: (1) a citizen of the United States; (2)
not less than 18 years of age; (3) a resident of the State of Michigan and the City of Romulus

must be registered to vote not less than 30 days prior to the election (MCL 168.497).

The City of Romulus, Michigan is seeking sealed proposals from qualified contractors for the
purpose of entering into a twelve month contractual services contract for the performance of

Annual race will help fund
emergency responders’ memorial

Wayne County Parks, the North American Indian Association and American
Indian Health and Family Services will host Native American Heritage Day from
1-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Nankin Mills Interpretive Center, 33175 Ann
Arbor Trail in Westland. Each year, nearly 1,000 people embrace this special
social gathering which includes a traditional drumming circle and dancers in full
regalia. Native American crafts and food will be available for purchase. All ages
are welcome at the free event but due to limited seating, visitors should bring a
