An Inkster resident is concerned for the
safety of his great-granddaughter following
an incident last Thursday morning in the
YaleStreet andBeechDaly area.
TomYates said that when his granddaugh-
ter, Mist Thomas, was preparing to take her
daughter, Skaya, to school at about 7:15 a.m.,
she realized she had forgotten something in
her home. She left Skaya, 6, in the driveway
of their Yale Street home and ran back into
the house. When she came back out of her
home, there was aman walking up the drive-
way toward the child.
Yates said theman, whomThomas did not
recognize, was about 6 feet away from the
girl when Thomas reappeared. The man
turned and ran to his vehicle, described as a
blue minivan with duct tape on the back
windshield.
Thomas followed the man in her car long
enough to obtain his license plate number
which she reported to Inkster police.

Inkster Mayor Hilliard Hampton and Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, left. To
cinch her win, Waara correctly spelled dachshund (as in the dog) and then spelled cata-
log. She received a $25 gift card from CVS and a toaster oven. Second place winner was
Helaine Binstock from Canton Township and third-place went to Norm Kotarsh, also of
Canton. The Spell Off for Seniors is part of Wayne County's services to seniors that
