Recall efforts blasted
To the editor;
I felt compelled to write and
address these ridiculous recall pro-
ceedings going on in our state to
recall the governor, some legislators
and senators for doing what the peo-
ple asked for.
They are trying to do what is right
by balancing the state's checkbook as
everyAmericanmust do.
In order to save Medicaid and
other necessary programs, the budg-
et must be trimmed and everybody
needs to be on the same playing
field. The teachers unions don't want
any part of this, they what to feed at
the public (taxpayer) trough as long
as possible. It is these organizations
that are leading the charge on these
elected officials that are doing what
the public elected themto do.
Every job I've had required me to
pay part of my medial and retire-
ment benefits, the unions believe
they shouldn't.
We do not need to raise taxes; we
need to stop spending somuch.
Phil Solarz.
Westland
when this hiring from the council
table was proposed, suggested that
the job should have been posted
and advertised before being arbi-
trarily offered to him. He didn't
have any qualms about hiring from
the narrowest of candidate pools
which apparently was confined to
only him.
It was another council member
who insisted the job be posted
when this hiring was suggested
months ago and other candidates
for the position sought out and
interviewed rather than simply
rubber-stamping the job offer as
others seemed inclined to do.
We have always admired
Mulholland as a young man with a
sincere desire to serve and one
who could bring some new ideas to
the somewhat stagnant Wayne City
Council. We also have been very
favorably impressed with the fresh
thinking and accomplishments of
newCityManagerRobert English.
We just find the procedure and
manner in which this hiring was
accomplished curious and agree
with Councilwoman Susan Rowe
who questioned the hiring when it
was first proposed and cast the
lone dissenting vote when it was
confirmed thismonth.
It just doesn't sit well with us,
either.
Now this was a real feat of
endurance. The Bataan Death
March had nothing on this exercise
inpure physical torture.
The new place is lovely, or I
think it might be, if I ever see the
floors which are now covered with
piles of clothing, boxes, cartons of
electronic components, wiring and
stuff I can't even describe. There
are obscure little paths among the
piles to get from room to room,
although they are pretty much all
the same right now.
I do have a phone number, but
no phone to make it work. The
cable installer was on time and
courteous, except I can't find the
TV so he left the ominous-looking
wires where it may eventually be
moved. He also installed the com-
puter wiring, but, you guessed it,
the computer was nowhere to be
found. My kitchen table remains in
three pieces, somewhere near the
room in which it belongs (I know
that because I found the refrigera-
tor and stove under boxes full of
unused cable wiring, old cell
phones, computer discs and empty
boxes from software) but I can't
findmy chairs.
My solution to that problem has
been to eat out. OK so maybe I
could look a little more carefully
for the kitchen stuff…but I have
other priorities right now.
We're still trying to get organized
at the office, we're trying to put
together the Fall Festival book and
publish theweekly paper.
This timetable was the doing of,
you guessed it, my dear spouse. We
could have waited until the Fall
Festival book was completed
before moving our residence-
allowing us time to get organized
and rested up a bit from the first
move before attempting the sec-
ond.
But no. My own 'Jerk' decided
that we could do it all at the same
time. Lest he not fully understand
the full extent of my displeasure,
whenever I stumble across a box
full of his possessions, I make sure
to shove it forcefully under the very
tallest pile I can find.
I wouldn't be quite so grumpy if
I could find my underwear. Or if I
didn't strongly suspect that the
computer and phone are under all
those unused and “extra” pieces of
the canopy for theChinese bed.

and for reasons known only to them-
selves will not allow logic or reason,
or the will of those who put them in

If the 3,500who signed these peti-
tions in two weeks are an indication
of the feelings of a section of the
28,000 or so township residents, why
aren't township officials doing what-
ever it takes to get this issue on the
ballot?
Their job is to represent the peo-
ple, not their own parochial inter-
ests, whatever theymay be.
Theywere elected, not anointed.
