The Penn Theatre in downtown Plymouth
will be showing movies at both 1 and 7 p.m.
everyThursday duringAugust.
The Summer Cinema Series is being spon-
sored by Community Financial and Packaging
Corp. of America.
The movie tonight is Chicken Run from
2000 and the 1981 film The Great Muppet

Friends continue book sale
The Friends of the Westland Library are
continuing their summer book sale at the facil-

Lucky Ducks to race
The Belleville Rotary Club will present the
annual Lucky Ducky Rubber Duck Race on
Belleville Lake immediately following the
Belleville Bridge Walk that will take place at
5:30 this afternoon.
Ducks will race from the Denton Road
Bridge to the Belleville Road Bridge. Tickets
are available at many locations throughout
Belleville including the Belleville Area
Museum, Main Street Flowers, Johnny's Grill,
Fred C. Fisher Library, Van Buren Township
Clerk's Office and from any Belleville Rotary
Club member. Ticket prices are $5 per ticket
or five tickets for $20.
Prizes will be awarded to the first seven
ducks that cross the finish line with a with a
first place prize of $250. In addition there will
be a special prize for the last-place duck.
Proceeds will benefit the Belleville Rotary
Club and the Belleville Area Historical
Society.
Quilt items sought for exhibit
The Plymouth/Westland Grange Quilt Show,
with vendors, classes, food and door prizes,
will take place from10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Aug. 20
at St. JohnLutheran School, 2602 SouthWayne
Road, Westland. Parking is off of Glenwood
Street, behind the school and beside the
church. Donationswill be accepted at the door.
"The Grange started this event in Westland
six years ago so the community could appreci-
ate the art of quilting," explained Sharon
Strebbing, president. "The Grange members
sponsor many charitable activities in our com-
munities and look forward to the public sup-
porting their hard work and enjoying this
uniquely beautiful American craft." Leora
Smith, coordinator of the show said, "We are
looking for quilted items of all types, including
clothes, to be entered.
"If there is a story to the quilt, please type it
out and include it with a separate listing of
your name, address, phone number, and e-
mail address.
"The items can be delivered to the school,
from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19. There
will be a 'People's Choice' award given at the
end of the showonSaturday."

Yard sale volunteers sought
The Belleville AreaMuseumandHistorical
Society will take part in the city-wide yard sale
from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Aug. 25 and 9 a.m.
until 5 p.m. Aug. 26, 27 and 28 and volunteer
help is being sought for the event. Volunteers
will work in two shifts each day of the sale and
help for cleanup onSunday is also needed.

The Historical Society is also seeking dona-
tions of used items for the sale, including
household goods, decorative items, furniture,
toys, antiques, small appliances, tools, books,
baby items, pictures, etc., (no clothing or com-
puters, please).
The sale will take place at the home of his-
torical society members John and Debbie
Juriga at 327 East Huron River Dr. Please call

donations.
Proceeds from the sale will be used to sup-
port the projects and programs of the
BellevilleAreaMuseum.
Library hosts blood drive
Those who donate a pint of blood at the
Canton Public Library any time between 11
a.m. and 4:45 p.m. Aug. 26 will be registered in
a raffle to win two tickets to Cedar Point and
rree gasoline for a year.
Everyone who joins the effort and donates
blood will be rewarded with a free box of
chocolates.
Blood donations are the lowest seen by the
American Red Cross in over a decade; the 43
hospitals in the tri-county area alone use 800
pint per day, a library spokesman said.

PlymouthHigh School reunion planned
The Plymouth High School Class of 1956 is
planning a pair of reunions for September.
The 55th reunion is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at
Karl's Cabin restaurant and an all school
reunion will take place from noon until 5 p.m.
at the Plymouth Elks Lodge, 41700 Ann Arbor
Road, on the south side of Plymouth.
The class of 1956 has sponsored this event
every five years for some time and more than
500 alumni, faculty members and staff attend-
ed five years ago.
Reservations are not required.
Therewill be a $6 per person admission fee
at the door which includes a picnic-style buffet
lunch.

Church hosts grief workshop
Ward Presbyterian Church is sponsoring an
eight-week grief workshop, FromGrief to New
Hope beginning onSept. 12.
The freeworkshop is open to anyonewho is
grieving after the death of a loved one and will
be presented by Cathy Clough, founder and
executive director of New Hope Center for
Grief Support. Each session will begin with a
presentation about one aspect of grief followed
by small group participation led by trained
facilitators. Attendees will be placed in groups
withotherswhohavehad similar losses.

Society will host the annual juried Handmade
