Field Day is planned
Buy Michigan event set
Victorian clothing on sale
Area residents can unleash their inner
child and join Canton Leisure Services for
fun activities and a little friendly competi-
tion that the whole family can enjoy dur-
ing the 2nd Annual Family Field Day and
Movie in thePark.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 in
Heritage Park, located west of Canton
Center Road between Cherry Hill and
Palmer roads.
Featured activities on the north side of
Heritage Park include classic favorites,
such as: potato sack races, shoe kicks,
three-legged races and wheelbarrow
races.
“This is a great way to reconnect with
family and neighbors at Heritage Park for
some friendly competition and summer-
time fun,” said Laura Mortier, Canton
recreation specialist. “The experience
and memories is what excites everyone.
It's about families building those traditions
in a healthy way, and actually spending
time together that determines the success
of this Field Day. We are committed to
delivering unexpected fun and lasting
memories for participants, all experi-
encedwhile taking part in this special out-
door health and wellness activity followed
by amovie in the park.”
Attendees are reminded to bring a cam-
era. No pre-registration is required. The
$10 per family fee is required to be paid
on-site and the event is open to the public
and all ages are encouraged to attend,
even grandparents, Mortier said.
Following the Family Field Day events,
a special showing of Disney's animated
movie “The Good Dinosaur” (rated PG)
will begin at dusk in the park on a big
screen. Food, snacks, and popcorn will
also be available for purchase on site.
Individuals who are not able to attend the
Family Field Day activities are still
encouraged to attend the freemovie.

The Buy Michigan Now Festival will
return to downtown Northville for the
eighth year the weekend of Aug. 5-7.
Hours will be 4-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 10
a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 and 10
a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7.
The Buy Michigan Now Festival is a
weekend celebration of Buy Michigan
Week. This family-friendly event includes
tasty treats, street vendors, live music and
children's activities - all highlighting
Michigan-based businesses andMichigan-
made products.
Admission and parking are free. Main
and Center streets are closed in the mid-
dle of downtown to make it easy to shop
and dine, while enjoying live entertain-
ment from some of Michigan's finest per-
formers. Entertainment inTown Square is
complemented by a Michigan Beer and
Wine Garden brought to you by the
Northville Chamber of Commerce. Visit

The Northville Historical Society will
sponsor the 2016 Heritage Festival Victorian
Clothing Sale from1-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.
7, Thursday, Sept. 8. and Friday, Sept. 9 at
Mill Race Historical Village, 215 Griswold
St. north ofMainStreet.
Victorian era clothing and accessories for
adults and childrenwill be available for pur-
chase from various vendors. Some clothing
is new, some gently used and some is vin-
tage.
There is a $2 admission charge per adult
visiting the sale. Cash sales are preferred
and some vendors may not accept checks or
credit cards.

It may seem like summer vacation just
started, but local stores are already shift-
ing into back to school mode. Plymouth
Community United Way is no different.
The official Back to School Supply Drive
began last week and will continue
throughAug. 12. Newschool supplies and
backpacks can be donated at the United
Way office, 960 W. Ann Arbor Trail, Ste 2,
Plymouth, MI 48170. Items can be
dropped off from7:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Monday through Thursday and from 7:45
a.m. until 2:45 p.m. onFriday.
Items needed include: pencils, col-
ored pencils, 24-count crayons, markers,
yellow highlighters, red, black and blue
pens, glue sticks, Elmer's glue, scissors
with rounded edges, pink erasers, rulers,
one-subject wide ruled notebooks, com-
position books, 1-inch, three-ring binders,
wide-ruled loose leaf filler paper, pocket
folders, supply boxes and bags and back-
packs.
UnitedWay will also be accepting new
socks and underwear in all sizes to be
distributed to children. The items will be
donated to the Plymouth-Canton
Community Schools ClothingBank.
United Way representatives are avail-
able to help coordinate drives within
groups, religious outreach groups or busi-
nesses.
