One civic group in Wayne is
peddling a new idea to install
new bike racks throughout the
downtown area.
Wayne Main Street recently
announced a new crowdfunding
campaign through theMichigan-
based crowdfunding platform
Patronicity. The campaign will
support the plan to install new
bike racks throughout down-
town and run pop-up bike
repair and safety workshops in
partnership with the Wayne
BicycleClub.
If the campaign reaches the
crowdfunding goal of $5,500 by
Aug. 31, the project will win a
matching grant with funds made
possible by the Michigan
Economic
Development
Corporation Public Spaces
Community Places program. For
project details and to donate,

The Downtown Bike Rack
Program is designed to promote
cycling in Wayne. The project
includes the installation of 20
brand new, custom bike racks
downtown, the refurbishing of
the existing downtown bike
racks, pop-up bike repair and
safety events launching this fall
and promote biking throughout
the community.
The project also aims to pro-
mote Wayne as a bikeable com-
munity, explained Theo Brooks,
a board member of Wayne Main
Street.
"Wayne has an avid biking
community and we want to do
whatever we can to promote
Wayne as a bike-friendly city,
including providing options for
secure bike parking throughout
our downtown," Brooks said. In
addition to this project, the
Wayne Bicycle Club is also gain-
ing in prominence. The club is
currently in competition for a
Michigan Municipal League
(MML) Community Excellent
Award.
Wayne Main Street was
launched in 2011 by a group of
civic-minded residents.
It has evolved into one of the
largest civic organizations in the
community. Last year, volun-
teers contributed more than
2,700 service hours to the city
group.
In 2014 the organization was
recognized by the Michigan
Main Street Association as a
Select-Level Main Street com-
munity.
