The plan to use landfill gas from
Woodland Meadows landfill to fire
four electric turbines to heat an
office building in Van Buren
Township has been cancelled by
the developer.
VanBurenTownship Supervisor
Linda Combs announced the deci-
sion of Hoosier Energy towithdraw
from the project at the regular
meeting of the township board last
week.
The project has been under
review since 2010 when it was first
proposed.
The green energy project was
officially cancelled by the develop-
er in a June 20 letter to the town-
ship. The company had proposed
the co-generational facility utilizing
landfill gas-powered turbines and
hot water to heat the Grace Lake
Corporate Center during winter
months.
Arthur Mullen, Economic
Development Department director
for the township said that signifi-
cant progress toward the issuance
of construction permits had been
accomplished in the last six
months. The project was to have
begun construction by an Aug. 22
ground-breaking deadline, accord-
ing to a prepared statement from
Mullen.
Van Buren Township officials
have worked with the developer
through a number of complex
issues in regards to noise, site and
building design and zoning use
classification, Mullen added.
Through long negotiations, these
issues were negotiated and solved
and the project approved at the
Aug. 22, 2012 township planning
commissionmeeting.
Van Buren Township anticipat-
ed the green energy investment at
the Grace Lake Corporate Center,
Mullen said in the statement. He
said that the project would have
benefits including the production
of renewable energy in the town-
ship, the use of the methane which
is now wasted as a landfill byprod-
uct, increased property values in
the area, the support of environ-
mental stewardship, job creation
and help with economic develop-
ment in the township.

tim of the 13th homicide in Inkster this

The death was discovered by Inkster

dependent on a wheelchair since he was
injured in a motorcycle accident about a
month ago, witnesses told police. He was
pronounced dead on arrival at a nearby
hospital.
The investigation into a suspected
drive-by shooting in Inkster that left four
people injured last Thursday night is pro-
ceeding, according to Inkster police
reports. A shooting on July 27 has been
ruled accidental, according to Inkster
DetectiveAnthonyDelgreco.
“This was stupid people playing with a
20 gauge shotgun. The subject was acci-
dentally shot in the buttocks,” Delgreco
said.
Delgreco said the shooting last
Thursday night took place on the north-
west side of the city. Witness accounts
have indicated that aman in a black Doge
Charger may have been involved. Police
said that the injured individuals were not
cooperating in the investigation. One of
them reportedly drove himself to
Annapolis Hospital in Wayne for treat-
ment of the gunshot wound, although
policewouldnot confirmthose reports.
The remaining three injured were also
treated at the hospital for gunshot injuries
which were not life-threatening, accord-
ing to police.
Delgreco said that police suspect this
shooting was both drug and gang related.
Two of the victims were the same men
shot during a recent incident when five
people were shot within a 5-hour period
in the city.
Police are asking the public for any
information regarding the incidents. Tips
should be referred to the Inkster police at
