« Previous Page Table of Contents Next Page »control of another nation.” Ooops, better look that one up, too, because it is another lie used to inflame the public.
This is one of my favorites: “The Muslim Brotherhood has openly stated they want to declare war on Israel.” Guess what? That, too, is patently and completely false. There is no truth to it.
Or, “Less that 10 percent of Obama's cabinet appointees have any experience in the private sec-tor.” Um, that's not true, either. And this is a gem: “The Massachusetts health care plan is wildly unpopu-lar among state residents.” Well, actually, the people in Massachusetts love their health care plan, according to an inde-pendent audit, and guess what? There are no “death panels” in either the Massachusetts or the American plans, either. So you're safe, even in your declining years. These guysmade this stuff up. To be honest, I have to at least applaud their creativity. This one, well, it really is one of their bests: “John Holdren, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, has proposed forcing abortions and putting steri-lants in the drinking water to con-trol population.”
Now that's guaranteed to get people riled, right?Only it isn't true.
Sorry, but it, too, is a big ole lie. So Rupert, when the Brits get done with you, if you don't nod off again or succumb to the way of all flesh while they are talking, maybe you could do something to promote ethics, principles, legitimacy, fair-ness and objectivity at these news-papers and television stations you own. I doubt it, though, since last week the Wall Street Journal, once the very pinnacle and ideal of cred-ibility and journalistic integrity, ran 13 opinion pieces justifying your conduct. But then, you own the place now, don't you?Howsad. Is it too late for you to grow a conscience about the way you mis-lead the American public that no longer knows or understands the difference between the propaganda and lies of your stations and papers and factual reporting? Sure, every-body would rather be entertained--- -but at the cost of being completely misinformed?
But that misinformation allows you to control their thinking and opinions, doesn't it? And thereby puts you in control of their choices at the election polls. Who would have ever imagined that an ancient, nearly senile, Australian would control the thinking, voting and leaders of two other continents? You're the man who really decides whose going to lead countries, aren't you?
That's especially tragic since it is more than obvious, now, that the only integrity or accuracy you care about is in your bankbook.

Plymouth, and the surrounding communities, have another accom-plishment to add to the list of attrac-tions and reasons to visit the area. Themoveof anevent of this caliber to our area is aclear endorsement of the quality of life to be found here. The prestige associated with bringing this event to our area cannot be discount-edordismissed.
We're glad Concours d'Elegance chose The Inn at St. John's and we take a vicarious pleasure in the endorsement of this area that is inherent in bringing this show to our backyard.
If you are lucky enough to visit this show, and we urge you to do so, you will come away with an understand-ing of the incredible price tags placed on some of these cars and a whole new respect for the automobile as a thing of great beauty, created not only byengineers, but byartists.
Blood donors sought
The American Red Cross Southeastern Michigan Blood Services Region is facing a criti-cal blood shortage and has issued another appeal for blooddonors. Many regular donors are busy or traveling, school is out of ses-sion and donations in May and June dropped to the lowest levels the Red Cross has seen during this timeframe in over a dozen years, said Bruce Newman, M.D., Southeastern Michigan Region medical director. Demand for blood remained steady during this same period, which is why the Red Cross needs people-now more than ever-to roll up a sleeve and give as soon as possible. All types are needed, but especially O negative, which can be used to treat any patient, he added. The Red Cross has responded to more than 40 major disasters in more than 30 states over the past threemonths alone - deliver-ing help and hope to people affected by floods, tornadoes and wildfires. But there's another, more personal, kind of disaster which can happen to anyone at any time if blood is needed and it's not available, Newman said. “As a physician, I have seen first-hand how blood transfusions can truly help save lives,” said
Newman. “However, a critical blood shortage like the one we're experiencing right now could have a devastating effect on a patient whose survival may depend on blood being there whenneeded.”
The Red Cross Southeastern Michigan Blood Services Region provides lifesaving blood to 43 hospitals and must have 900 peo-ple give blood and platelets each weekday to meet hospital demand, a spokesman said. Accident victims, as well as patients with cancer, sickle cell disease, blood disorders and other illnesses receive lifesaving transfusions every day. There is no substitute for blood and volun-teer donors are the only source, added theRedCross spokesman. Individuals who are 17 years of age, 16 with parental permis-sion in some states, meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to give blood. Take positive identifi-cationwhendonating, he said. Eligible blood donors are asked to call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcross-blood.org to find a blood drive andmake an appointment.
