puppet master Treasurer Ron
Edwards stop these high-handed,
ruthless and shameless attempts to
control the flow of information to
voters.
This is the same pair that
adamantly opposed allowing peo-
ple to vote on our public safety
department after 4,000 people
signed petitions asking to vote.
These guys had to be taken to court
four times before they were forced
to allow people to vote, which is
our constitutional right in this
country. Then they bastardized the
ballot question to ensure defeat of
themillage.
I am aghast at the overbearing,
irresponsible, self-serving conduct
of Mr. Reaume. He apparently feels
that he is above the law and does
not answer to the people. This is
onemore example of his acting like
a dictator.
I can only hope that someone
will step up and run against him
before he goes even further out of
control.
KenGarner,
PlymouthTownship
say that's true and that the several
foot high pile of documentation
submitted to allege otherwise is all
incorrect or out of date or just
wrong. Every one of these judicial
hopefulsmay have told the absolute
truth. But shouldn't there still be
some type of investigation, some
regard for this type of complaint?
Some safeguard in place to protect
people should a fraud be commit-
ted?
When did it become OK to sim-
ply ignore these rules?
We wonder what these three
would do, if elected, and this moun-
tain of evidence were presented to
them proving that some other can-
didate lied and was in fact in viola-
tion of the state law and therefore
ineligible to hold office? Would
they, as judges, take the same action
as the bureaucrats in Lansing and
do nothing?
These affidavits should not be
confused with the nominating peti-
tions. This is a separate document
submitted at the same time and is a
sworn statement. Nominating peti-
tion signatures can be challenged
within seven days after review by
the appropriate county or city clerk.
If not, they are considered accurate
and even if signed byMickeyMouse
andAmeliaEarhardt, they stand.
These state election officials do
not have the legislative authority to
protect the people of Inkster, and
elsewhere, from chicanery or a vio-
lation of the state law which could
put someone less than pure of heart
on the judicial bench.
We think that is just wrong. The
suggestion of the elections director
that the complainant take his issues
to court and seek redress through
the justice system to pursue the
issue was ludicrous. That would
take months and with appeals,
years. It is possible that the new
judicial term could even expire
before there was a final court rul-
ing on the validity of these claims.
Voters everywhere are placed in
jeopardy by this failure of the elec-
tions rules to provide a conse-
quence to an overt act of pure
deceit on the part of candidates,
should one be committed.
Once again, we are not accusing
these candidates of any wrongdo-
ing. We don't know if any of them
committed any error. We have no
impartial authority to investigate
the issue and assure us that they
really do, or do not, live in Inkster.
Andneither do the voters.
didate in the upcoming election.
We think anyone who takes the
time and spends the energy
Sharland did in researching and
evaluating and interpreting confus-
ing, misleading, and often, contra-
dictory, data, in an effort to help a
friend, and his community,
deserves some thanks.
We are sure he isn't going to get it
from Wayne County, which is now
faced with a serious dilemma.
Officials there need to prove him
wrong and demonstrate they did
have the right to sell the land, or
face some serious legal conse-
quences. We don't think he'll get any
thanks from Plymouth Township
officials, either, who now cannot be
confident, despite their bravado,
that through the error in their
assessing department, they
acquired a $16 million piece of
property for $606,000.
Whatever the result here, what-
ever those in control may do or say,
Sharland deserves a great deal of
credit for doggedly pursuing the
issue to helphis neighbor.
We should all have such friends.
While no official word has been
issued regarding the abrupt depar-
ture of Fire Chief Darwin Loyer
from Van Buren Township,
Battalion Chief Daniel C. Besson
has been named as interim
replacement chief.
Besson has 20 years of experi-
ence as a paid on-call part-time
fire fighter and 10 years tenure as
a full-time firefighter.
Besson has been with the Van
Buren Township Fire Department
for 18 years and assumed his cur-
rent duties June 21 when Loyer
left the position.
Besson is currently employed
full-time with the city of flat Rock
Fire Department, where he began
in 2003. He was promoted to shift
commander in 2008 and to the
rank of lieutenant in 2011. He is
the training officer for Flat Rock
and the coordinator of Emergency
Medical Services.
He is a Belleville resident and
he and his wife, Jennifer, a
RegisteredNurse, have two daugh-
ters. He also served on the
BellevilleCity Council.
Besson's appointment is tempo-
rary, according to township offi-
cials, due to his full-time employ-
ment responsibilities inFlat Rock.
Besson is a licensed paramedic
and a certified EMS instruction.
He is also certified by the state as a
fire inspector. He also hold nation-
al certifications. Currently is pur-
suing his master's degree in
Emergency Management and
Homeland Security at Eastern
Michigan University. He earned
his bachelor's degree in Public
Safety Administration at Eastern
in 1999.
rationalize some of the actions he
andhis fellowelected cronies had
taken. His comments, which I
heard on tape, were self-serving,
self-aggrandizing and disingenu-
ous at best, but that's just my opin-
ion. I'msure others thought he did
a great job and believed every
wordhe said. This political speak-
ing engagement wouldn't be at all
remarkable, except this meeting
was “private” in every sense of
theword and to attend, one had to
be a member of the association.
Two people that I know about
were actually denied entry to the
meeting to ensure that only the
politician in question's views
would be the ones heard and that
he wouldn't be challenged on any
statement he made. He also sent
police cars to circle the parking
lot of the meeting site to ensure
there was no disruption or distur-
bance during his speech.
Really.
So you see the irony here,
right? He and his fellow incum-
bents can criticize the citizens
group for choosing the candidates'
views they wanted to hear but
when he was the chosen speaker,
thiswas completely acceptable.
When the citizens group didn't
invite him, or others, it was
because they don't want to hear
both sides of the issue.
Geez, I just love politics.
