Blues concert is Tuesday
In a rare return to the Detroit area, Doug
Deming with his band, the Jewell Tones, will
performinPlymouthnext week.
This concert is a joint presentation of the
Plymouth Elks Lodge and the non-profit
Detroit Blues Society.
The one night only performance will take
place from 7-10 p.m. Tuesday, July 8 at the
Plymouth Elks Lodge located at 41700 Ann
Arbor Road. The facility features pizza and a
cashbar. Admission is $5 at the door.

Healthy eating is topic
Healthy Eating for Successful Living
classes will take place at the Romulus
Senior Center beginning at 10 a.m. July 11.
Classes will continue on Fridays through
Aug. 29.
The programwill focus onheart and bone
healthy nutrition strategies to help maintain
or improve participants' wellness and pre-
vent chronic disease.
Classeswill continue through 12:30 p.m.

Golf outing deadline nears
July 15 is the deadline to register for the
6th Annual Northville High School Boosters
Golf Outing and Silent Auction which will
take place onAug. 23 at theLinks ofNovi.
Each team is required to provide one
foursome. The price per golfer is $130 and
includes lunch, dinner, 18 holes of golf with
cart, open bar and access to the silent auc-
tion. There is a dinner only option priced at
$50 per person and includes dinner, open
bar and access to the silent auction.

Online safety advice offered
Representatives from the Senior Brigade
will discuss online safety at a meeting set to
begin at 6 p.m. July 21 at the Leanna Hicks
Inkster PublicLibrary.
Advisors will discuss email safety tips,
how to recognize and avoid online scams,
basic computer security measures, helpful
online resources and general online safety
tips.
The meeting is open to the public and
there is no admittance fee.
The library is located at 2005 Inkster
Road in Inkster.
Yard sale and antique appraisals
to benefit Bellevillemuseum
The Belleville Are Museum and
Historical Society will host a Yard Sale from
noon until 7 p.m. July 17. Director Katie
Dallos said that shoppers will find treasures
among the tables of antiques and collectibles
from the museum collections and donations
of area residents.
The same day, auctioneer and appraiser
Doug Dalton will be on had to offer
appraisals from 2-6 p.m. Admission at the
first appraisal is $10 and each additional
itemcanbe appraised for $5.
All proceeds from the event will benefit
theDonKeeneMemorial Fundwhich assists
withmuseumand society programs.

Senator sets coffee hours
State Sen. Hoon-Yung Hopgood (D -
Taylor) is inviting members of the communi-
ty to join him at upcoming coffee hours in
his district.
The coffee hours will provide opportuni-
ties for the public to sit down with the sena-
tor to discuss state and local issues and other
matters of concern to the community,
according to a prepared release.
Hopgood's July Coffee Hour will take
place at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 17 at The
Senior Alliance, 3850 2ndSt. #201 inWayne.

Plymouth chamber sets golf outing
More than 101 players have already
signed on to play in the annual Plymouth
Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing July 21
at the Golden Fox Course. The course was
designed by Arthur Hills to be reminiscent
of the Scottish seaside courses.
The event is a scramble that will include
lunch, dinner, plus open bar throughout the
day and on the course. All company four-
somes receive a sign on the course.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with tee-off
at 11 a.m. Box lunches will be available in
the club house or to take on the course. The
cost is $205 per golfer or $820 per foursome.
The event includes the annual auctions
and donations are still being sought.
Donations from large to small items and gift
certificates are accepted and every donor
gets individual recognition. Items for the
auctionneed to be receivedby July 16.

Romulus festival planned
The 73rd Annual Romulus Community
Festival, also known as the Jones Sub
Festival, will take place July 25 through July
27 at the T.J. Coleman Center, 35351 Beverly
Road inRomulus, just east ofWayneRoad.
The Community Talent Show is planned
for 5-9 p.m. July 25 with D.J. Roy Williams
and games and refreshments.
The event will continue from noon until 9
p.m. Saturday, July 26 with pony rides for
children younger than 12, food andmusic all
day.
From 2-8 p.m. Sunday, July 27, there will
be performances by church choirs, praise
dancers and other guests.
Vendors will be on hand each day and vis-
itors are urged to bring their own lawn chair.
The event is open to the public but no
alcohol or petswill be allowed.

Chicken dinner planned
The Romulus VFW Post 9568 will host a
Barbeque Chicken Dinner with entertain-
ment by Brian Bosman beginning at 5 p.m.
July 25.
The cost is $7 for dinner or $10 for dinner
and the show.
All proceeds will be used to benefit the
Romulus VFW Honor Guard Mackinac
BridgeLaborDayWalk.

RomulusNight at Comerica Park
The Greater Romulus Chamber of
Commerce and the City of Romulus are
sponsoringRomulusNight at ComericaPark
onAug. 27.
Check inwill begin at city hall at 4:30 p.m.
at the bus will leave at 5 p.m. from the park-
ing lot for the 7:08 p.m. game.
The $65 price includes the bus ride, a buf-
fet including hot dogs, hamburgers, cole
slaw, pasta salad, baked beans, chips and
soft drinks, and the seat at the game.

Annual Mud Day Tuesday
Wayne County Parks is set to transform
the Hines Park-Nankin Mills Area into a
giant 75 by 150-foot mud pit playground
from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July
8. Children, ages 12 and younger, will
have the opportunity to get down and
dirty in one of the messiest playgrounds
southeastMichiganhas ever seen.
"Mud Day is a fun, unique and rare
annual event that draws international
attention," said Wayne County Executive
Robert Ficano. "Regardless of the time of
year, Wayne County Parks have great
opportunities for families to enjoy them-
selves and create life-longmemories."
Thousands of children will charge into
the mud at 11 a.m. Youngsters will be
separated into age categories for events
such as, "Mud Limbo" and wheelbarrow
races. Also, the 2014 King and Queen of
Mudwill be crowned.
Children should wear old clothes and
shoes and bring a clean change of clothes.
There are no showers on-site; however, a
clean-up area is available with hoses to
aid in rinsing off the mud. Parents are
also advised to bring a supply of towels.
Plastic bags will be provided to ensure
that all dirty clothes are properly con-
tained for the triphome.
The Hines Park Nankin Mills Area is
located onHines Drive, east of AnnArbor
Trail in Westland. Sponsors for Mud Day
