Man charged with shooting at police
Northville hosts Arts and Acts this weekend
The Northville Art House
shines a spotlight on the imagina-
tion, art, talent and cultural
diversity of artists throughout the
region when the annual Arts and
Acts Festival returns for the
ninth consecutive year June 23-
24 in Millennium Park in
Northville. The festival includes
the 30th annual juried fine art
show Art in the Sun, featuring
more than 60 talented artists; the
first annual Maker's Mart of
Northville highlighting artisans
and makers throughout the area;
musical entertainment featuring
some of the top musicians in
metro Detroit; children's activi-
ties; the 5th annual Northville
Art House Chalk Festival and a
large variety of food and drink.
The Northville Chamber of
Commerce will host the 2nd
Annual Tapped in the 'Ville Craft
Beer festival will share the park
from2-6 p.m. Saturday, June 23.
With the exception of a recom-
mended donation for the chalk
festival, Arts and Acts is a free
event. It is also amajor fundrais-
er for the Northville Art House.
The funds raised allow the Art
House to bring quality art
exhibits and art education to
Northville and the surrounding
communities.

An Allen Park man is facing
several felony charges following
his arrest last week inBelleville.
Wayne County Prosecutor
Kym Worthy has charged
Christopher Willoughby, 44, in
connection with firing a hand-
gun at a police officer during his
arrest at about 8:40 p.m. June 11.
The incident began at Sumpter
Road near Willow Road in
Belleville when Willoughby was
observed driving erratically by a
Sumpter Police officer on patrol.
The officer also reported observ-
ing the suspect with a flushed
face and bloodshot eyes, accord-
ing to police.
When the officer attempted to
conduct a traffic stop, the defen-
dant fled in his car as the officer
pursued him in a marked police
car, according to police reports.
A second officer, in another
marked police car, also pursued
the defendant. It is alleged that
the defendant took out a hand-
gun and fired approximately five
times at the first officer. The
defendant fled from the officer
in pursuit for approximately 3
miles, when his car collided
with the second police car,
according to a report from the
office of the prosecutor. The offi-
cer in the second car was able to
place the defendant under
arrest.
It is alleged that Willoughby
was driving while intoxicated
witha loaded firearminhis car.
Willoughby has been charged
with: assault with intent to mur-
der; assault with intent to do
great bodily harm less thanmur-
der; flee and elude 3rd degree;
carrying a concealed weapon;
operating a vehicle while intoxi-
cated, third offense; felonious
assault; felony firearm; posses-
sion of loaded firearm in vehicle
and possession of weapon under
the influence.
Willoughby was arraigned
last Thursday in 34th District
Court before Judge Brian
Oakley who ordered a $1million
cash or surety bond. His prelim-
inary examination is set for July
5.
Northville Township Police
have announced increased
patrols in the area of Six Mile
Road between Sheldon and
Beck roads.
Police reported that they
received calls regarding an
unknown man attempting to
gain access to homes between
2:30 and 3 a.m. Friday, June 15.
The attempted home inva-
sions occurred in the Woods of
Edenderry subdivision off of Six
Mile Road between Sheldon
and Beck, police said. Home
video footage was reviewed by
officers and the suspect was
described as wearing all dark
clothing, a ski mask over his
face and gloves. The man was
seen at other residences in the
same area trying to gain access
by turning door knobs.
Police said there is no indica-
tion the suspect successfully
entered a home.
“The Northville Township
Police Department takes these
types of incidents seriously.
Attempted Home Invasion is a
felony punishable by a term of
imprisonment,” police said in a
prepared statement.
Officers have encouraged
area residents to report all sus-
picious persons, vehicles, noises
and circumstances immediately
to the police. They also advised
additional protective measures
including locking all doors to
the residence and locking car
doors. Police further suggested
than residents leave exterior
lights on during the nighttime
hours.
“We would like to thank the
residents that provided us their
video footage. We ask that any
resident not already contacted
by a police officer regarding this
event review their home sur-
veillance cameras for similar
instances and report any find-
ings to the police department
immediately,” the statement
continued.
