An CHAPTER 38
ROMULUS EMPLOYEES PENSION PLAN
An Ordinance to amend the City of Romulus Code of Ordinances Chapter 38 Romulus Employee Pension Plan.
THE CITY OF ROMULUS ORDAINS:
Section 1:
Short Title
This ordinance shall he known and cited as the Ordinance Amendment Suspending Minimum
Required Distributions under Internal. Revenue Code Section 401(x)(3) for the 2009 calendar
year under the Amended Romulus Employee Pension Plan.
Section 2:
Sec. 38.5.6 of the City of Romulus Employees' Pension Plan Ordinance as restated effective
July), 1. 2009 is amended effective January 1, 2009 to add the following new paragraph (i):
(i)
The requirements of Code Section 401(a)(9) and the provisions of the Plan relating
thereto shall, subject to the following rules, not apply for calendar year 2009:
(l) In the case of a Participant who otherwise would receive a distribution equal or
substantially similar to the amount that Code Section 401(x)(9) would require the
Plan to distribute. for the 2009 calendar year ("the 2009 RMD"), the Plan shall permit the
Participant to elect whether to receive the 2009 RMD. This election by the Participant shall
not affect the right of the. Participant to receive any amount available under the Plan other
than the 2009 RMD). If the Participant fails to make an election, the Plan shall not distribute
the 2009 RMD to the Participant.
(2) For purposes of Code Section 401(a)(9) and the provisions of the Plan
relation to there to: (1) the required beginning date with respect to any individual will be
determined without regarding to this Paragraph 13 for purposes of applying Code Section
401(a)(9) for calendar years other than 2009, and (2) if the 5-year rule of Code Section
401(a)(9)(B)(ii) applies, the 5-year period described therein shall be without regard to
calendar year 2009.
Section 3:
Repealer
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are repealed only to the
extent necessary to give this ordinance full force and effect,
Section 4:
Savings
All proceedings pending and all rights and liabilities existing, acquired or incurred at the time
this ordinance takes effect are saved and may be consummated according to the law in force
when they were commenced.
Section 5:
Severability
Should any clause, sentence. paragraph, subsection or section of this Article be declared void
or otherwise invalid, for any reason, by any court., such declaration shall not affect any por-
tion
of this Article other than the part specifically declared to be void.
Section 6:
Effective Date
This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon publication in the official
newspaper.

Within forty-five (45) days after the publication of any ordinance duly passed by the Council, a petition may be
presented to the Council protesting against such ordinance continuing, in effect. Said petition shall contain the
text of such ordinance and shall be signed by not less than six percent (6%) of the registered electors registered
at the last preceding election at which a Mayor of the City was elected. Said ordinance shall thereupon and
thereby by suspended from operation and the Council shall immediately reconsider such ordinance.

Rotary honored by chamber
Library announces summer programs
The Romulus Rotary Club received the
Greater Romulus Chamber of Commerce
President's Member of the Month Award for
June.
Gary Staffeld, Rotary Club president, was
presented with the award by Chamber
President DavidGoodman.
The Romulus Rotary Club is in District
6400 of Rotary International, an organization
of business and professional leaders united
worldwide, who provide humanitarian serv-
ice, encourage high ethical standards in all
vocations, and help build goodwill and peace
in the world, according to the organization
website.
The Romulus Club was chartered in 1939.
Dr. Elmer Goerke was the founder and char-
ter president of the club. He also served as
district governor (1959-1960). Romulus
Rotary and has been a thriving service group
since that time. The club meets at 6:15 p.m.
Wednesday nights at the Community United
Methodist Church located on 11160 Olive St.
Club members meet each week and discuss
and/orwork onprojects in the community.
One recent project was honoring the 2013
Class A High School Basketball Champions,
the Romulus Eagles boys basketball team.
The Romulus Rotarians hosted a sports ban-
quet on April 29 and every team member
and every cheerleader received a trophy
fromtheRotaryClub, Goodmannoted.
Other projects include the installation of a
handicap ramp for a needy Romulus resi-
dent. The clubmembers also participated in
Martin Luther King Day at the Romulus
High School, hosting the annual 2013 MLK
DayPancakeBreakfast.
Whenever possible, the Romulus
Rotarians join forces with other service
clubs and organizations. Recently, the club
supported Scout Robert Kerr and his project
to install three new park benches at the
Romulus Senior Center Garden area. The
club purchased one of benches. They also
partnered with the Romulus Police
Department in the National Prescription
DrugTake-BackDay.
In September of every year, in coopera-
tion with the City of Romulus, the Rotarians
host the Pumpkin Festival Parade of Lights.
The Romulus Rotary Club will also be spon-
soring the 2013 Independence Day
Fireworks Celebration onSaturday, June 29.
The Romulus Rotary Club is deeply
involved in the life and health of the City of
Romulus. They have certainly earned the
accolades and words of appreciation repre-
sented in thismonth's award, Goodman said.
Registration is now under way for summer
reading programs at the Romulus Public
Library, 11121WayneRoad.
The programs are designed to encourage
reading throughout the summer by rewarding
young people for their reading efforts, accord-
ing toLibrarianPatti Braden.
"Dig Into Reading" is the theme of the pro-
grams for children ages 2 to 12 through Aug. 3.
A Read-To-Me Program is for children 2 to 5.
An Independent Readers Program is provided
for children 6 to 12. Children read books and
winprizes.
The free entertainment and craft programs
are scheduled for June 26-July 31:

their hours for a chance to enter several raffles
throughout the summer.

Signed up
Huron High School senior Jeremy Frayer recently signed a letter of intent with Adrian
College where “Worm” Frayer plans to play football. He was a star player and captain
of the football team at Huron High School. Frayer earned “All League” honorable
mention for Downriver. On hand for the ceremony were his father, Jerry, mother, April
and standing, stepmother, Jennifer, stepbrother, Jackson and brother, Jordan.
