Romulus Public Library now has a
unique lending program available for
area residents.
Library Director Patricia Braden said
that the “Seed Library” is available and
residents can borrow seeds to start gar-
dens all across Romulus and Huron
Township. The Seed Library is available
during library hours, 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Monday through Thursday and from 10
a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday andSaturday.
Borrowing seeds is easy, Braden said.
Residents can pick the seeds they want to
take home and plant them. Romulus
Public Library will provide the instruc-
tions on how to grow and care for the
plants. Residents will also have the
opportunity to participate in the seed har-
vesting project that will promote growing
food and saving seeds from the plants
after they have matured which will help
sustain the Seed Library for future sea-
sons, she added.
The Romulus Public Library has
received a donation of “unique seeds”
from Gardens Across for advanced gar-
deners who would like to try growing
something different in their gardens, she
said.
“The purpose of the Seed Library is to
support and encourage residents of
Romulus and Huron Township in experi-
encing the benefits of gardening their
own flowers, fruits, and vegetables as well
as harvesting seeds. This program was
created with the goal that everyone from
beginner to expert is encouraged to try
growing something new this season,”
Braden said.
The Seed Library is a community
effort with many individuals already
donating seeds for everyone to use.
Neighbors helping neighbors to grow
fresh fruits and vegetables to put on their
tables, as well as making a positive contri-
bution to the environment is the ultimate
goal of this program.
“The staff at the library is happy to
help with any questions you may have
about this program,”Braden added.
The library is located at 11121 Wayne
Road. For information, call (734) 942-7589.

Mystery
Clues sought in history of mini-truck
A piece of history has come back
home to Romulus, and now officials are
looking formore information about it.
It's an antique child's pedal car, paint-
ed like a fire engine with the city logo
on it. It was found at an estate sale in a
house in Pinckney, said Jan Lemmon, a
Romulus resident.
“We have no idea howold it is or how
it got there,” she said.
The pedal car fire engine number,
331, actually belonged to a fire truck at
one time, she said.
The pedal car is currently on display
at Romulus City Hall. It will be moved
to the freight house at the Romulus
Historical Park. Lemmon said she's
hoping someone will come forward
with some additional information about
it.
“I think it's neat that we found it and
it's back in the community,” she said.
Anyone with information can call
Lemmon at (734) 320-1134.

On a roll
Councilman William Wadsworth, left, Fire Pup from the Romulus Fire
Department, Sylvia Perecki from Romulus Lanes and Jean Wadsworth cele-
brate the success of the recent fundraiser which raised $3,314. "It's the biggest
event we've ever had," Wadsworth said. Since fundraising for the animal shelter
began, more than $230,000 has been raised through donations and support at
community fundraisers like the bowling fundraiser and bingo events at the
Romulus Pumpkin Festival.
