Eighth-grade student Daniel Li
already has a nice addition to his
college fund.
Li, a student at AchieveCharter
Academy in Canton Townshipwas
recently awarded one of four
$5,000 scholarships from National
HeritageAcademies.
Li was one of only four success-
ful applicants for the scholarship,
competing against 500 other stu-
dents in 76 school from nine
states.
Li is a member of the math
club, robotics club, band, Little
Stars Foundation, National Junior
Honor Society, Metropolitan
YouthSymphony, Student Council,
science club, and writing circle
club. He also participates in local
international cultural events and
Chinese culture events around the
area. He has been the recipient of
multiple awards including a per-
fect score on the American
Mathematics Competition 8. After
high school, Li said, he hopes to
attend Massachusetts Institute of
Technology.
“Daniel Li is amodel student at
our school, and someone all other
students can look up to,” said
Jennifer Conley, principal at
Achieve Charter Academy.
“Daniel naturally exemplifies our
Moral Focus virtues daily. He is
always seeking out ways to grow
and learn. He is a true leader.”
Each student was required to
pick from three topics to write a
250-500 word essay about their
school Moral Focus curriculum.
An independent professional
selection group picked the win-
ners based on their essay submis-
sion, academics, and community
service. tuition.
“Receiving this scholarship is
really exciting, it's a great feeling,”
saidLi.
“I think it is important to keep
your interest in mind when learn-
ing. Take advantage of what you
learn in school, but also make
sure to take time to learn all you
can about things that you enjoy. I
have always enjoyed community
service, I like helping people so it
felt natural that it should be the
topic ofmy scholarship essay.”
