Westland holiday parade Sunday
The annual Wayne- Westland Memorial
Day Parade will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday,
May 27.
The parade will begin at the Towne &
Country Bowling Alley parking lot, located at
1100 S. Wayne Road and travel south on
Wayne Road to the Wayne Library where
there will be a short memorial wreath cere-
mony.
Memorial Day Parade is set
The annual Memorial Day Parade will
begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday May 28 on Main
Street indowntownPlymouth.
The route will take the marchers north
onto Church Street where a ceremony is
planned at the Plymouth Veterans Memorial
Park.
Thunder Rolls inBelleville
For the eighth year, Memorial Day in
Belleville will be celebrated with the
ThunderRolls event onMay 28.
The annual motorcycle ridewill beginwith
registration at 11 a.m. in the parking lot at
Wayne County Community College. The
school is located off Haggerty at I-94, exit 192
and north on Haggerty Road. The actual ride
will start fromthe college at 1 p.m.
Riders will travel to the Belleville
Veteran's Memorial in Horizon Park off
BellevilleLake onHighStreet.
A memorial service will begin when the
riders arrive at themonument, between 2 and
2:30 p.m. during which time the names of
those veterans who have died this year will be
read.
The fee to join the ride is $10 which should
be paid at the time of registration. Each regis-
tered rider will receive a special commemo-
rative pin.

Athletic clinics offered
H.Y.P.E. Athletics will be offering an Elite
Baseball Training Camp for boys and girls
ages 8 - 14 at Attwood Park (next to Wayne
Community Center) from 9 a.m. until noon
June 18 - 22.
Camp instructors have more than 25 years
of playing, training, and coaching experience
in professional and collegiate baseball. The
H.Y.P.E. staff will demonstrate the fundamen-
tals of baseball and athletic development to
improve the overall skill and knowledge of
the sport.
Every participant will receive a drink and
snack daily and there will be a pizza party
upon completion of the training camp. The
fee is $25 for Wayne/Westland residents and
$30 for non-residents.

Summer camps available
The Salvation Army of Plymouth still has
openings for the Summer Day Camp program
which continues from June 18 until Aug. 10.
Camps take place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Monday through Friday and the fee is $60 per
week per child. An optional before-care and
after-care program is available for working
parents. There are also scholarships available
for familieswho cannot afford the full fee.

Charity car show inWayne
The Don Nicholson Charity Car Show to
benefit Community Living Services will take
place from 6-9 p.m. June 18 at Metro Mall in
Wayne.
Host DJ will be Benny fromBenny and the
Jets. There will also be activities for children
including face painting and children younger
than 12 can vote for their favorite gumball car.
There will also be displays for several
micro businesses.
Annual FleaMarket planned
The Romulus Historical Society Annual
FleaMarket will take place from8 a.m. until 5
p.m. June 23 this year at Romulus Historical
Park, 11147Hunt St. inRomulus.
There is a $15 fee for a rental spot at the
sale and vendors must provide their own
tables and any other furnishings.

Summer art camps offered
The Plymouth Community Arts Council is
sponsoring 46 summer arts camps for pre-
school, elementary, middle, and high school
students along with adults. The camps take
place from 9 a.m. until noon, from 1 -4 p.m.
and from5-8 p.m.

Football training planned
H.Y.P.E. will be at Attwood Park offering an
Elite Football Training Camp for boys ages 7-
14 from9 a.m. until noon July 9 - 13.
Special guest speakers will include
University of Michigan and Michigan State
football players, along with players from col-
leges across the state.
Staff will coach offensive and defensive
drills, running form, flexibility, motivational
speeches, and nutritional guidelines. Every
participant will receive a drink and snack
daily.
The cost is $25 for Wayne/Westland resi-
dents and $30 for non residents.

Adults 50 and older are needed to rep-
resent the City of Romulus and the
Romulus Senior Center in the 2012
Downriver Senior Olympics, set for July 30-
Aug. 3.
Men and women can enter events in
one of four age groups: 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70
to 79, and 80 and older. Applications are
available at the Romulus Senior Center,
located at 36525 Bibbins. The deadline to
register is June 29. Participantsmust sign a
waiver.
Huron Township is host of the 27th
annual Senior Olympics. Most of the events
will be take place in NewBoston, although
events will also take place in other commu-
nities.
The schedule of competitive events
includes:
Monday, July 30: Baking contest, softball
throw, ring toss, football throw, Frisbee
throw, soccer kick and euchre.
Tuesday, July 31: Co-ed tennis, men's
bocce ball, pinochle, horseshoes, billiards,
darts, co-ed shuffleboard, ping pong and
car show.
Wednesday, Aug. 1: Golf (best ball,
scramble, longest drive and closest to the
pin), women's bocce ball, bridge, swim-
ming, basketball shoot and ballroomdance
contest.
Thursday, Aug. 2: One-mile run and
bowling.
There is a $6 registration fee, which
includes a T-shirt. Most events are $2 each.
The fee is $5 for billiards and bowling and
$13 for golf, which is scheduled for Willow
Metropark inHuronTownship.
Golf, silver and bronze medals will be
presented to the first-, second- and third-
placewinners.
A free “breakfast of champions” will
take place from 7 to 8 a.m. July 30 at St.
John's School inNewBoston, followed by a
free fun walk. The “unity awards banquet”
will take place at noon Friday, Aug. 3, at
Crystal Gardens in Southgate. Banquet
tickets are $13.50.
In all, 18 communities are expected to
participate: Romulus, Allen Park,
Brownstown, Ecorse, Flat Rock, Gibraltar,
Grosse Ile, Huron Township, Lincoln Park,
Melvindale, River Rouge, Riverview,
Rockwood, Romulus, Southgate, Taylor,
Trenton,Woodhaven andWyandotte.
