cated group of individuals, Abdo said.
The chapter also recognizes the top stu-
dents in eighth grade from the middle
school. This honor is given each year to
encourage these students to continue their
academic achievements.
The National Honor Society ranks as
one of the oldest and most prestigious

Lambert's top priorities has been economic
renewal for the city, he said. Business and
industry continue to locate in Romulus, rang-
ing from new fast food restaurants, like Taco
Bell, to large firms such as Lee Steel and
Detroit Thermal Systems (DTS) that will pro-
videhundreds of jobs to the community.
Lambert said his administration has faced
many challenges head on and that he is proud
of the fact that the city has had a balanced
budget in each of his 12 years as mayor and,
has a modest surplus in the current fiscal
year while some communities struggle to
avoid financial ruin - all while keeping the tax
levy one of the lowest inMichigan.
Programs such as “Operation Fresh Look”
saw the demolition of more than 350 unsafe,
unsound and abandoned structures through-
out the city.
New-and-improved city facilities also
mark Lambert's tenure in office, and his
dream of a state-of-the-art athletic center
came truewith the design and construction of
theRomulus AthleticCenter, considered to be
the premier facility in the State of Michigan.
Another dream was the new Romulus Senior
Center which was created to serve the city's
older residents. He said the building will be
paid off in 2014, using federal Community
Development BlockGrant funding.
Lambert said continued road improve-
ments (including Goddard Road in the down-
town area), upgrades in the sanitary sewer
system and new sidewalks along major road-
way (such as Wayne Road) are in the works as
the leadership of the Department of Public
Works seeks and secures federal aid and cre-
ates partnerships to make the infrastructure
advancements.
Lambert said he is proud that his adminis-
trative team instituted long-time fiscal plan-
ning, prudent management and crucial deci-
sion making on a daily basis. He said it is
mandatory to have the right administration in
place to findways to stretch taxpayers' dollars
make tough decisions and keep Romulus
moving forward.
“While I am proud of our achievements, I
have been fortunate to work with some out-
standing individuals on a daily basis,” Mayor
Lambert said. “I have been blessed by the
support of Romulus voters since day one and
I can't thank them enough for providing me
the honor to guide our wonderful city. I'll still
be around and remain active in the communi-
ty I love. I will always feel that Romulus is a
great place to live, work and raise a family.”
Lambert is married to Diane Banks
Lambert, whose family also has a long and
rich history of public service in Romulus.
They have seven children and the proud
grandparents of eight.
Lambert also urged residents to research
the candidates on the upcoming ballots and
then exercise their vote, calling the election
“important to our city's future.”
After a brief hiatus, the Belleville

community area who are home-
schooled equivalents of the Class of
2013, were eligible to apply for this
