Saturday ban on vehicles begins
A 6-mile stretch of Hines Drive will be
closed to vehicular traffic from 9 a.m. until 3
p.m. every Saturday through Sept. 27 to
encourage cyclists, skaters, runners and walk-
ers to use the park. Hines Drive will be closed
during those times on Saturdays only from
AnnArbor Trail toOuterDrive.
Parking is available at the Hines Park-
Warrendale Area (Warren Avenue, east of
Telegraph) and Hines Park-Nankin Mills
Picnic Area (Hines Drive, east of Ann Arbor
Trail).

Health extravaganza set
A free Health and Wellness Extravaganza
featuring world renowned Dr. Joel Wallach,
BS, DVM, ND author of "Dead Doctors Don't
Lie" will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
May 20 at the Romulus Athletic Center. There
will be a seminar from5:30 until 8 p.m.
A second session is planned for 10 a.m.
until 2 p.m. Thursday May 24 at Hope United
Methodist Church, 26275 Northwestern
Highway in Southfield. A seminar will take
place from5:30--8 p.m.
The health expos are open to all ages and
activities, music, product booths, seminars and
more are planned. The emphasis is education
to stop fatalities among young athletes.

SpringCardParty planned
SS Simon and Jude Church will host the
annual Spring Card Party from 6:30 until 10
p.m. May 9.
There will door and table prized and a 50-
50 drawing alongwith a lightmeal and snacks.

Township sets hazardouswaste pickup
Plymouth Township officials have sched-
uled the annual Household Hazardous Waste
Collection day for 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 10. Items can be dropped off at
the township DPW yard at 46555 Port St.
which is off Beck Road, near the M-14
Expressway and the Compuware Sports
Arena.
Common items brought to the event
include old paint and stains, propane tanks,
car and boat batteries, florescent light tubes
and other items. This year, the yard will also
accept fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and
household electronics.

Document shredding will also be offered
along with the Household Hazardous Waste
collection. Participants will be providedwith a
document destruction certificate and can
watch the shredding take place via a camera
installed inside the shredding vehicle.
Document shredding will be available in
theCompuware Sports Arena parking lot.

The Beautification Commissions of
Northville Township and the City of Northville
are hosting the annual Seedling Give Away
from 9-11 a.m. May 10 at Township Hall, 44405

Arbor Day seedlings are available at not
charge to city, township and Northville School
District residentswithproof of residency.
Mail or phone requests will not be accom-
modated, nor will requests of groups or
schools.
BookClub tomeet
The SecondMondayBookClub, open to the
public, will meet from 7-8 p.m. May 12 at the
Romulus PublicLibrary.
Discussion this month will be on The
Mistress of theArt of DeathbyM.L. Stedman.

Antique appraisals offered
Auctioneer Doug Dalton will offer antique
appraisals as part of a fundraiser for the
Belleville Area Museum from 4-8 p.m. May 15
at VanBurenTownshipHall.
The $10 fee will include admission and
appraisal of one item. There will be a $5 fee
for appraising additional items with a three
itemlimit.

Free golf clinic offered
The Greater Romulus Chamber of
Commerce will host a free golf clinic for mem-
bers at Links of Gateway golf Course, 33290
GatewayDr. inRomulus onMay 15.
Times have not yet been announced for the
free lessons which will include a discount
coupon for future golfing, refreshments and a
class on golf rules and etiquette.

Arts and crafts offered
Children ages 3 to 10 are invited to partici-
pate in Wednesday evening arts and crafts
programs at the Romulus Senior Center, 36525
Bibbins.
Presented by the Romulus Recreation
Department, "Crafting into Spring with a
Twist" features two classes each Wednesday
through May 14: 6 to 7 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m.
Classes are limited to the first 15 students in
two age groups: 3 to 6 and 7 to 10.

Trash or treasure?
TheBellevilleAreaMuseumandHistorical
Society are sponsoring Antique Appraisal Day
at VanBurenTownshipHall from4-8 p.m. May
15.
Admission and first appraisal fee is $10 and
there is a $5 fee for each additional item.
Experts Doug Dalton and Chuck Schmidt will
look at toys, dolls, china, glassware, furniture,
documents, figurines, sporting items, memora-
bilia, prints and paintings, along with other
items.
All proceeds from the event will benefit
museumprograms and events.

Food distribution set
The next distribution of emergency food by
Plymouth Community United Way is sched-
uled for 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, May 15 at St.
Kenneth Catholic Church in Plymouth. The
Emergency Food Assistance Program pro-
vides low-income Plymouth and Northville
residents with canned, non-perishable and
perishable items.
All recipients must pre-register at
Plymouth Community United Way, 960 W. Ann
Arbor Trail, Suite 2, Plymouth.
This is a supplemental food program that
may be used in addition to other assistance
programs. Bridge Card holders automatically
qualify, but need to pre-register. Recipients not
currently on governmental assistance (food
stamps, ADC and general) must provide docu-
mentation including proof of income and resi-
dency before receiving food on distribution
days.
Distributions continue the third Thursday
of eachmonth.

Reunion tickets available
Tickets for the Wayne High School Alumni
Association Annual All Class Reunion can be
purchased for $35 per person.
The banquet is planned for 5-10 p.m. Friday
May 16 at Wayne Tree Manor, 35100 Van Born
Road inWayne.
This year, the class of 1964 will be honored.

Bowlers to aid shelter
The 10th annual 9 PinNo Tap Tournament,
a fundraiser for the Romulus Animal Shelter,
will take place beginning at 7:30 p.m. May 16 at
Romulus Lanes. Registration will begin at
6:30.
The fee is $25 per person and includes
ladies' and men's mystery games, snacks and
cashprizes. There is a 50-50 raffle planned.

FarmFest planned
Farm Fest will return to Maybury Farm in
Northville from10 a.m. until 4 p.m. May 17.
The day will include hayrides, face paint-
ing, activities for youngsters, antique tractors,
food demonstrations, spinning demonstra-
tions, sheep shearing and many other activi-
ties.
Farm Fest is traditionally the day the new-
born baby animals are introduced to the pub-
lic.
Admission to Farm Fest is $3 per person
and children younger than 2 are admitted at
no cost.
There is free parking.
Maybury Farm is located at 50165 Eight
MileRoad inNorthville, about a half mile past
the state park entrance.
