Women's history is topic
Susan Nenadic, a college teacher, will dis-
cuss A Purse of Her Own, at 7 p.m. May 7 at
the New School Church at Mill Race Village
inNorthville.
The stereotype is that 19th century
women did not work, but they did. Some
worked because they needed the money, but
many others worked because they wanted to
do so. "A Purse of her Own" is a phrase used
by Susan B Anthony. She believed every
womanneededmoney of her own.
Nenadic teaches women's history for non-
credit programs at WCC, the University of
Michigan and Eastern Michigan University.
She's a member of the American Association
of UniversityWomen (AAUW).
Mill Race Historical Village is located at

Dance celebrates veterans
A USO Dance celebrating the 68th
anniversary of the Allied victory in Europe
and the World War II veterans and defense
workers is planned for 6 p.m. May 8 at John
GlennHighSchool.
The event is sponsored by the school, the
Michigan Humanities Council, Rotary of
Westland, American Legion and the Veterans
of ForeignWars (VFW).
There will World War II propaganda
posters and the high school band and chorus
will performWorldWar II eramusic.
The Junior Reserve Officers Training
Corps will also perform patriotic drills and
there will be reenactments of World War II
entertainment.

County plans nature programs
Wayne County Parks is offering a Me and
My Grown Up series of programs designed
for 4 and 5-year-old nature explorers to enjoy
with an adult companion. A special program
is offered once a month from 1-2 p.m. at
Nankin Mills Nature Center in Westland.
Upcoming programs include Pond Study on
May 9; a Hobo Hike on June 13; Colors on
July 11; Butterflies on Aug. 8; Leaf Prints
Sept. 12, Pioneer Games Oct. 10, Seeds on
Nov. 7 andDinosaurs onDec. 12.
The program fee is $6 per child and $2 for
each adult, each month for Wayne County
residents and $7 per child and $3 per adult
for out-of-county residents.

Treasure diver to speak
David Trotter, of Canton Township, will
present a program on his many adventures
discovering sunken ships in the Great Lakes
at 7:30 p.m. May 9 at First Presbyterian
Church, 200EastMainSt. inNorthville.
Trotter, a diver, author and lecturer, has
been featured on several television series
and his organization, Undersea Research
Associated, used state-of-the-art equipment
for underwater purposes.
The event is sponsored by the Single
Place organization but is open to the public.

The Huron Valley Conservation Club will
sponsor their Annual Flower Sale from 8
a.m. until 4 p.m. May 11 at the Chase Bank

Certification classes offered
Registration is under way for a certifica-
tion class in CPR, first aid and AED from 8
a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the
Romulus Athletic Center, 35765 Northline
Road.
Participants will receiveRedCross certifi-
cation in cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(CPR), first aid and automated external
defibrillation (AED).
Admission fees are $55 for RACmembers,
$65 for non-members who live in Romulus
and $75 for non-member non-residents.
Class materials are included in the regis-
tration fee.

Wayne High Schools Alumni Association
29th Annual All Class Reunion Banquet

RomulusClean SweepDay set
Volunteers are invited to participate in
the annual Romulus city-wide cleanup
known as Clean Sweep Day, scheduled for
themorning of Friday, May 17.
The day begins at 9:30 a.m. Participants
are asked to stop by the Romulus Senior
Center at 36525 Bibbins to select an area of
the city to clean. Trash bags and gloves will
be provided.
Volunteers are asked to bring their own
tools if possible.
Some toolswill be available.

Senator hosts coffee hour
State Sen. Hoon Yung Hopgood (D-
Taylor) will host a coffee hour for con-
stituents from 6:30-7:30 p.m. May 17 at New

The meeting is open to the public and
offer an opportunity for the public to dis-
cuss state and local issues directly with the
senator.

Sign of spring
The Village Potters Guild will host the annual spring sale in Plymouth from 10 a.m. until
6 p.m. Saturday May 4 and from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday May 5. Functional and
decorative pottery like those above created by members of the guild will be available at
this yearly event. Tableware, tiles, jewelry and a wide range of decorative and framed
