Food for Fines accepted
The Romulus and Westland libraries will
accept non-perishable food items in lieu of
fines throughApril 30.
The Romulus Public Library will forgive
$1 in fines for each itemdonated.
The Westland Public Library will deduct
$2 from library fines in exchange for a
canned or boxed foot itemup to $20. The pro-
gram is sponsored by Gleaners and The
LibraryNetwork.
Clean up contest Saturday
Kickoff for the Inkster Spring Clean
Challenge- District vs. District will take place
from 9-11 a.m. this Saturday, April 26, at the
Booker T. DozierRecreationComplex.
Residents are urged to come out and sign
up to participate with the council person
from their district so that they will be named
as the top district in the Ultimate Spring
CleanChallenge.

Drug TakeBackDay Saturday
The Drug Enforcement Administration
and Northville Township Police have sched-
uled the 8th National Prescription Drug
Take-Back Day from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Saturday, April 26, at the Northville
Township Police Department located at
41600 SixMileRoad.
Medicines that languish in home cabinets
are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse,
and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse
in the U.S. are alarmingly high-more
Americans currently abuse prescription
drugs than the number of those using
cocaine, hallucinogens and heroin com-
bined, according to the 2009 National Survey
onDrugUse andHealth.
Mother's Day crafts at library
A Mother's Day craft-making program is
scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, April 28, in the
meeting roomof theRomulus Public Library,
11121WayneRoad.
The program is open to children ages 4
and older. Participants will makemomsome-
thing special and from the heart. Mothers
will not be allowed in the room to make the
gift a surprise. Dads arewelcome.

Summer DayCamps planned
The Wayne Westland Parks and
Recreation Department will offer Summer
DayCamp June 16 throughAug. 29.
The camps will take place from 8:30 a.m.
through 5:30 p.m. Extended care hours are
7:30-8:30 a.m. and 5:30-6 p.m.
The fee is $26 per day or $130 a week for
residents and $33 a day or $165 weekly for
non residents. There is a $5 charge for field
trips and extended care hours require a $10
per child fee per day.

Church hosts sale
SS Simon and Jude Church will host a
garage sale from9 a.m. until 5 p.m. tomorrow,
April 25.
At 4 p.m. therewill be a $3 bag sale and all
large items will be sold at half price during
this hour.

Chamber honors judge
The Romulus Chamber of Commerce will
honor JudgeBrianOakley as the 2014 Person
of the Year at a banquet beginning with a
reception at 6 p.m. May 2 at the Marriott
Hotel at DetroitMetroAirport.
Tickets are $35 and will only be available
throughApril 25. Seating is limited.

State of Community lunch set
The annual State of the Community
luncheon featuring locally-elected leaders
sharing their thoughts on the community and
plans for the future is planned for noon April
26.
The speakers will include Dan Dwyer,
City of Plymouth mayor; Richard Reaume,
Plymouth Township supervisor; Dr. Mike
Meissen, Plymouth-Canton schools superin-
tendent and Shannon Price, Wayne County
commissioner.
Tickets for the luncheon are $20. The
event will take place at Plymouth Manor,

Freemeditation classes offered
A free introductory series of meditation
and Ayurveda classes will take place from
2:30-4:30 p.m. April 26, May 3 and May 10 at

Topics will include concentration and
relaxation techniques, awareness and con-
scious living, basics of Ayurveda and secrets
of balanced living.

Church hosts cash bingo
St. Aloysius Parish will host a 50-50 cash
bingo staring at 1 p.m. April 26 at the St.
Aloysius Activity Building, 37200 Neville

card. There will be cash prizes on all bingos
and foodwill be available for sale.

Free legal help offered
A free legal presentation and assistance
for seniors 60 and older will be offered
through Wayne County Neighborhood Legal
Services of Michigan at 2:30 p.m. April 28 at
theWayneCommunityCenter.
Experienced legal staff members will pro-
vide free legal assistance to seniors on most
civil cases, including: guardianship, conser-
vatorship, wills, trusts, power of attorney,
nursing homes, assisted living,
Medicare/Medicaid and others.

A Wayne County Spelling Bee for Seniors

Association annual all class reunion can be

Tribute concert benefits charity
The Progressive Club, 11580 Ozga Road in
Romulus will host a charity tribute concert
beginning at 7:30 p.m. May 2.
Tribute artists will perform as Garth
Brooks, Donna Summers and Toby Keith.
The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the cost is
$20 per person. Therewill be a cashbar.
All proceeds from the event will benefit
theSt. Paul BuildingCampaign.

Museumserves children's tea
Youngsters and their dolls are invited to a
tea party at the Plymouth Historical
Museum, at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4. Children
can dress up, choosing froman assortment of
outfits with fancy boas or hats. Participates
can have their photos taken while dressed
up, and also participate in make and take
activities, where they will make a Mother's
Day card, a frame for their photo, and will
get a flower to plant in the yard.
Tickets for the tea are $25 for one adult
and one child (an adult escort is required);
additional children's tickets can be pur-
chased for $13 each. Tickets purchased after

Potters plan spring sale
The Village Potters Guild will host the
annual spring sale from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Friday May 2, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Saturday May 3 and from noon until 4 p.m.
SundayMay 4.
Functional and decorative pottery created
by members of the guild will be available at
this yearly event. Tableware, tiles, jewelry
and a wide range of decorative and framed
pieceswill be sold.
The studio is located at 340 N. Main St. in
Plymouth behind the Crossings Restaurant.

SpringCleanUp set
City of Plymouth residents can participate
in the annual Spring CleanUp beginning at 7
a.m. May 3, when residents can place extra
trash and large items at the curb for an extra
pickup.
Regular trash pick up will take place as
usual. Items must be placed at the curb in an
orderly and safemanner.
During the spring Clean Up, each house-
hold will be allowed the equivalent of eight
trash cans plus two large items. All small
items must be in containers or bagged and
not weigh more than 50 pounds. Freon must
be removed from any refrigeration units or
cooling units.
Prohibited items include tires, concrete,
construction debris, auto parts, dirt, sod,
extremely large items like boats, cars,
engines, motorcycles, snowmobiles, pianos
and any hazardouswaste.
