accused them of acting too quickly in
response to the raid.
Since the resolution
was approved on a 6-
0 vote (Councilman
John Barden was
absent), Council
President LeRoy
Burcroff
and
Councilwoman Eva
Webb
have
announced their
intentions to run for
mayor.
Robert
MacLachlan, presi-
dent of the Romulus
School Board, has
obtained petitions to seek election to the city
council and long-time councilmember
William Crova said he would not seek re-
election this year.
WilliamProwse, aRomulus resident, said
he was disappointed by the reaction from
themayor and council in general.
“When it occurred, (Lambert) disap-
peared. We didn't see him at council meet-
ings and he didn't make himself visible,”
said Prowse. “He needs to stand tall. He
should be at themeetings. He shouldn't have
left.”
To the council, he
said: “Instead of
uniting together and
providing leadership
at the council meet-
ing, it appeared
there was a lack of
communication and
more of an opportu-
nity for personal
gains. The meeting
contained announce-
ments of who was
running for mayor
and who was step-
ping down from current positions. The tim-
ing could not have been worse. Instead of
providing stability and trust for the citizens
of this great city, you created more anger
and frustration at the whole political
process.”

Besson said that it is medically advisable
for anyonewho received emergencymedical
service from the department between the
March and April dates to seek medical
attention for any type of skin rash.
According to the Centers for Disease
Control, MRSA infections appear on the skin
as pustules or boils which are often red,
swollen, painful or have drainage. Often the
sores initially appear to be spider bites or
bumps. The infections commonly occur at
sites of visible skin trauma such as cuts and
abrasions and areas of the body covered by
hair like the back of the neck, groin, buttocks,
armpits or the beard area ofmen.
According to the center website, MRSA is
a staph infection which requires early treat-
ment. MRSA in health care settings usually
causes more severe and potentially life-
threatening infections.
Treatment may include having a health-
care professional drain the infection and
prescribe an antibiotic. The Center for
Disease Control cautions that the infection
should never be self treated as this could
make it worse or spread it to others. “If you
think you might have such an infection,
cover the affected skin, wash your hands and
contact your healthcare provider,” the
experts advise.
“If other people you know or live with get
the same infection, tell them to go to their
healthcare provider,” the center spokesman
urged.

Improvements to Ford Road presently
under consideration by the Michigan
Department of Transportation (MDOT) have
something in common. They are all expen-
sive and the state will need to find a funding
mechanism for any of them, according to
Matt Wendling, a senior engineer for Wilbur
Smith Associates, a consulting firm working
withMDOTon the latest FordRoad study.
During a meeting withMDOT representa-
tives last week in Canton Township.
Wendling said estimates for some of the pro-
posedplans could reach $40million.
Of the current options, the one apparently
most favored by township officials and the
consulting firm would include transforming
FordRoad into a boulevard by adding green-
ery and landscaping separating the east and
west lanes. The road would also be widened
to three lanes in some areas and left turns
would be prohibited at major intersections.
Turn around lanes, similar to the ones on
MichiganAvenue, wouldbe installed.
This project optionwould also include the
paving of Lotz Road in Canton from Cherry
Hill toFordRoad.
Wendling said that this appears to be the
most popular option but that something
would have to be done as Ford Road
requireswork.
Officials said that no final decision on the
plan would be forthcoming until mid-sum-
mer and that a consensus among MDOT,
Canton and Westland would have to be
reached on the acceptable plan.
Another option discussed was to do noth-
ing, although representatives from both the
state and township said this option is unac-
ceptable.
A plan to add a westbound lane to Ford
Road from I-275 to Sheldon Road and an
eastbound lane from Lilley to Haggerty was
also suggested. That plan would include bet-
ter turn lanes at key intersections.
The plan to reshape the entire I-275/Ford
Road interchange was rejected by federal
officials and MDOT has eliminated that
option which would have also added new
interchanges along the interstate at Cherry
Hill andWarren roads.
Wendling said the project would take
about five years to complete.
Ford Road plans may include boulevard
