A meeting to discuss the viability of a
Michigan Avenue Cruise in Wayne is
planned for 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 8 at the
US 12AmericanBar andGrill inWayne.
The previous organizer of the event has
no plans for a downtown Wayne cruise this
year as he has indicated there is not enough
sponsorship to fund the event. He will be
organizing a cruise in Westland rather than
Wayne on theusual July date.
This meeting will explore the possibility
of organizing a downtown Wayne as a non-
profit venture organized entirely by commu-
nity groups and local businesses. US 12 is

Bug hunters needed
Friends of the Rouge needs volunteers to
help look for stoneflies, mayflies and other
aquatic insects at the annual Spring Bug
Hunt on April 20. Interested volunteers must
pre-register byApril 5.
Children are welcome when accompa-
niedby a participating adult.
The event begins at 9 a.m. at the
University
of
Michigan-Dearborn
Environmental Interpretive Center.
Volunteers are assigned to teams of
Four to eight people who travel to two
sites where they look for living things in sam-
ples collected from the river under the direc-
tion of a trained team leader. The number
and type of bugs found is used to assess each
site and data are submitted to the state and
Rouge communities.

Maple Syrup tours offered
Maple Syrup tours have been extended
for another two weeks at Maybury Farm in
Northville.
The tours take place on the hour at 1, 2
and 3 p.m. April 6 and 7 and 14. Tours begin
with a hayride to the Sugar Bush where the
maple trees are tapped. The sap is then
transported to the evaporator in the new
sugar shack so visitors can see how the syrup
is actually made. Visitors can take part in all
phases of the process. Visitors should dress
warmly and boots are recommended for the
tours. Admission is $6 per person, children 2
and younger are admitted at no cost.
Maybury Farm is located at 50165 8 Mile
Road in Northville, 11/4 mile west of Beck
Road onEight Mile, 1/2milewest of Maybury
State Park. Enter at the Maybury Farm sign,
do not enter the state park. Parking is free.

The Wayne Westland Salvation Army
hosts Higher Rock Café, an evening of
Christian music, fellowship, games and con-
cessions at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Friday of the

Bomber buffing party planned
The Yankee Air Museum is hosting the
18th Annual Bomber Buffing and Polishing
Party from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. April 6 at
WillowRunAirportHangar 1, BayB.
Volunteers will be buffing and polishing
the aluminum skins of the World War II
Boeing B-17 Flying fortress and North
American B-25 Mitchell plane. Volunteers
are urged to bring a can of Megular's
Aluminum Polish and plenty of clean, soft
rags.
Pizzawill be served for lunchat noon.
Volunteers should enter through the door
under the blue awning of M2 aircraft man-
agement.

MarchMadness hits trails
Another long, coldMichigan is coming to a
close, and the Friends of the I-275 Metro
Trail are busy getting the trail ready for the
upcoming, biking, running and blading sea-
son. A series of cleanups on the Wayne
County section of the trail is planned from
5:30 to 7p.m. April 9 at the Cherry Hill rest
area off northbound I-275, north of Michigan
Avenue inCantonTownship.
Volunteers will be focused on picking up a
winter's worth of accumulated trash, so work
gloves are suggested.

The Voice contestant on stage
Tony Lucca, one of the most popular con-
testants on the NBC series The Voice will

Student muscians to perform
The Plymouth-Canton Winter Percussion
Ensemble will perform one night only in a
free concerts at 8 p.m. April 6 at the gymnasi-
um of Plymouth High School, 8400 Beck
Road inCantonTownship.
The Winter Drumline will perform at the
special performance. The drumline com-
prises students from the Plymouth-Canton
Educational Park and the bandprogram.
The Plymouth-Canton Winter Drumline
is active in the 2013 competition season and
have received numerous accolades for their
show, entitled Rituals. The Winter
Percussion Ensemble is under the direction
of Sean McElroy. On April 18, the Drumline
will travel to Dayton, Ohio to compete in the
world championship finals.
Square Foot Gardening is topic
A simplified system of gardening that
eliminates 80 percent of the pace, work,
weeds, watering and waste will be the topic
at a 1 p.m. class April 6 at the Romulus
PublicLibrary.
The class will include building, planting
and maintaining a raised garden bed and
natural and organic gardening. The event is
sponsored by the Friends of the Romulus
PublicLibrary.

Gaudior Academy, a pre-kindergarten

County Executive is speaker
April 8 is the final day to make reserva-

Three peat
The Wayne Jazz Synchronized Skating team remains undefeated as district champions
for the third consecutive season. Team members, from left, Danielle Corby, Samantha
Galinis, Emilie Blair, Macie Blanchard, Madison Alexander, Amanda Johnson, Allison
Range, Danielle Hanadel, Hannah Hamilton and Megan Range celebrate the win with
coach Julie Marchand, center. The team placed first in their final competition of the sea-
son at Livonia's Eddie Edgar ice rink March 16. They also competed in their first
National Competition at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in February where they placed
second to the home team. A skating clinic is planned from 4:30-5:30 April 27 at the
Wayne Community Center for anyone interested in participating in a team next season.
