"I bought the tickets yesterday," he said,
adding that he hopes "to get it right this time"
and take home the jackpot prize.
The winning tickets, which were among
nine sold in Michigan for the drawing last
week, were purchased at Meijer on
HaggertyRoad inNorthville.
Several of the other $250,000 prizes have
already been claimed.
“I've worked with school boards and pub-
lic schools for more than 15 years and am
always in awe at the commitment of so many
members. The time they spend being servant
leaders and honing their skills are second to
none,” saidHayes. “Schools are under excep-
tional pressure to be innovative and reinvent
the way they deliver education. Training
equips themwith the tools necessary tomake
the best decisions for Michigan's school chil-
dren.”
To achieve Level 1 and become “certi-
fied,” board members receive 30 hours of
classroom training in subjects ranging from
school law and finance to community and
labor relations.
Higher levels of recognition require even
more coursework, service and leadership
responsibilities.
Special recognition is also given to boards
of education when all members within the
same board complete different levels. Board
members can also receive advanced special-
ties in advocacy and data. MASB's Certified
Boardmember Awards (CBA) honors mem-
bers for seven levels of achievement and
advanced specialties.

Senior citizens and the disabled no longer
need to fear being alone should they experi-

A new service, Mercy LifeLink is an in-
home medical monitoring system that provides
instant access to emergency medical care 24
hours a day, seven days aweek. Mercy LifeLink
offers a wearable or wall-mounted call button
and in-home speaker console. In case of a fall,
distress, or othermedical concern, pressing the
call button automatically activates the speaker
console and connects users to the Mercy
LifeLink 9-1-1 Call Center which is staffed 24/7,
or to selectedneighbors, family or friends.
St. Mary Mercy Hospital, a 304-bed large
community hospital in Livonia, and Huron
Valley Ambulance (HVA), a nationally accredit-
ed, nonprofit community ambulance service,
have partnered to offer the local service to
patients.
“This service is designed to keep patients
safe, healthy and living independently,” said
David Spivey, president and CEO, St. Mary
MercyHospital.
Calls directed to the Mercy LifeLink 9-1-1
Call Center are answered locally by medically
trained dispatchers who evaluate the situation
and send an ambulance to the home immedi-
atelywhennecessary.
“Our dispatchers can talk to the patient
through the speaker console and give them
self-care tips. This is a tremendous benefit to
someone in distress,” said Dale Berry, HVA
President andCEO.
