The newly combined
Westland-Wayne Relay for Life
effort to raise funds for the
AmericanCancer Society began
with a Pizza Palooza event that
generated $550 recently.
Participating in the first
effort were Cottage Inn,
Toarmina's Pizza, Vizzy's Pizza
Place, Pizza Hut, Happy's Pizza,
Palmer House, U.S. 12 Bar and
Grill, Papa Romano's, Mr. Pita
and Jet's Pizza. The restaurants
participated in a casual compe-
tition and Cottage Inn was
voted as the best pizza at the
event.

of the local Westland-Wayne
event which will take place
from 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10,
until 7 a.m. Sunday, June 11 in
Central CityPark inWestland

example of how we can meet

Michigan State Police are
seeking a 'Good Samaritan' who
helped a stranded motorist who
was later shot to death in Inkster.
According to police reports,
the victim, whom police have not
identified, was riding in a vehicle
with friends when their car
broke down at about 12:10 a.m.
March 13 on Oakland Street in
the area of JohnDaly.
The victim, identified only as
a 27-year-old black man with
multiple Wayne County address-
es, got out and pushed the vehi-
cle with the help of a passerby
who was driving a small, silver
four-door car, according to wit-
nesses. Witnesses said the cause
of the breakdown was a faulty
transmission and the passerby
and the victim pushed the vehi-
cle onto JohnDalyAvenue.
About 10 minutes later,
according to witness statements
to police, an unknown suspect
shot the victimat the scene.
Michigan State Police investi-
gators are asking the individual
who assisted the victim to contact
the Inkster Police Department or
Michigan State Police at 855
MICH-TIP.
The scene is still under inves-
tigation and no other information
is being released.
The investigation is being han-
dled by Michigan State Police
which investigates all fatal and
non-fatal shootings in Inkster.

State Police seek ‘Good Samaritan’ witness
The Wayne Senior Services
Office is organizing an April
Fools' Softball game for
Saturday, April 1 to benefit the
WayneCommission onAging.
This is a 10-team tourna-
ment, modified Chicago style
with a double-elimination,
championship-game format.
Teams are co-ed with a mini-
mum five female and five
male players. The games will
take place rain, shine or snow.
Team registration fee is
$150 and the winning team
receives t-shirts. Registration
will begin at 8 a.m. and the
games will start at 9 a.m. at
Anderson Fields, 4635 Howe
Road, inWayne.

St. Mary offers Lenten Fish Fries
Several sites in Inkster will
offer free electronic federal
income tax filings through April
13 through the Wayne County
Asset BuildingCoalition.
The sites are all handicap
accessible.
Participants are urged to
have all necessary paperwork
and identification documents
so that the process goes smooth-
ly.
St. Clements Episcopal
Church at 4300 Harrison will
offer the service from 6-9 p.m.
on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Free tax preparation will
also be offered at New Birth
Baptist Church, 27628 Avondale
in Inkster. The electronic tax
preparation service will be
available from 6 to 9 p.m. on
Thursdays only.
The tax preparation will be
performed by certified volun-
teers and included only elec-
tronic filings with direct deposit
of refunds with the correct
information.
Participants could be eligible
for tax credits of up to $4,000 if
household income is $54,000 or
less.
St. Mary Catholic Church in
Wayne is hosting Lenten Fish
Fries again this year. The weekly
Fish Fries will take place from 4-
7 p.m. onFridays for sevenweeks
throughGoodFriday, April 14.
Dinners are $7 or $10 and
include a choice of fried or
baked fish, shrimp dinner or
Mac-N-Cheese.
Eachmeal comes with French
