Quilt showopen inBelleville
The Belleville Area Museum and
Western Wayne County Quilting
Guild are sponsoring the 2014 Quilt
Exhibit titled, It's aMan'sWorld. The
exhibit, which will continue through
March 29, features antique and con-
temporary quilts
There are special demonstra-
tions, bed turnings, a children's
sewing workshop andmore than 130
quilts on display. Velia Lauerman
will offer quilt appraisals from 6-8
p.m. March 20.
The display is open from 3-7 p.m.
on Tuesdays and from noon until 4
p.m.Wednesday throughSaturday.
Admission to the display is $2. the
museum is located at 405Main St. in
Belleville.

Graduation show is Saturday
The 2014 Senior Graduation
Party Committee is sponsoring
Project Graduation, a gathering of
vendors for graduation party needs
including tents, inflatables, photo
booths, caterers, bakeries and oth-
ers, along with Tastefully Simple,
Tupperware, Cookie Lee Jewelry,
Scentsy Fragrance Warmers, Mary
Kay, Velata Chocolate Warmers and
other businesses. Admission is free.
All proceeds will benefit the
Senior All-Night Party.
The show will take place from 11
a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8 at
the Canton High School cafeteria,

Free tax preparation offered
The Westland Friendship Center,
located at 1119NewburghRoad, will
be assisting residents by offering
free tax preparation.
This program was developed for
those in the low to middle income
brackets and they also provide the
HomeHeatingCredit.
Clients must present photo ID at
the times taxes are done. Joint
returns are done in the morning,
individual returns in the afternoon.

Church serving Lentenmeal
First United Methodist Church of
Wayne will serve fish dinners from
4: 30 to 7 p.m. Every Friday through
April 11.
The fish dinner includes baked
or fried fish, baked potato or french
fries, vegetable, cole slaw and a roll.
Children's meals are also available
with nuggets or one piece of fish,
french fries, vegetable, slaw and a
roll. The cost is $9 for adults and $4
for children's meals. Home made
pies are also available for $1 a slice.

Square, Wayne across from the
Wayne Post office. The church is

Grace Community Church in
Belleville is offering Saturday Night
Live gatherings beginning at 6 p.m.
every Saturday.
The services include fellowship,

Storytime continues at library
Preschool Storytime for children
ages 31/2 to 5 will continue at the
Romulus Public Library at 6:30
March 11 and 18.

Blues Brothers Revue set
Jake and Elwood Blues will
appear live on stage in a Blues
Brothers Revue at 8 p.m. March 7 at
the Wayne County Community
College District Downriver Campus

Genealogy for beginners is topic
Beginning genealogists can learn
the basics of researching ancestors
and creating a family tree during a
Genealogy for Beginners class set
for 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. March 8 at the
NorthvilleDistrict Library.
Students will learn how to chart a
tree, understand vital records and
discover the wealth of information
contained in census records, with an
introduction
to
software.
Geneaology experts will help with
hands-on research online. A limited
number of computers will be avail-
able and students can bring person-
al laptops, along with their library
card.
This class is presented by the
Northville Genealogical Society.
Space is limited and reservations

Ives of March concert planned
The Ives of March will be pre-
sented
by
the
Michigan
Philharmonic at 2 p.m. March 9 at
FirstMethodist Church inPlymouth.
Soloists Martha Sheil and
Stephen Luseman will perform
along with the Plymouth Oratorio
Society.

MadHatter Tea at museum
The annual Mad Hatter Tea will
take place from 2-4 p.m. March 10 at
thePlymouthHistoricalMuseum.
The event celebrates the wearing
of hats and Sandy Root, a Civil War
reenactor and period milliner will
present Mad About Hats--100 years
ofWearingHats, 1860-1960.
Before the presentation, delica-
cies from Joe's Deli of Plymouth and
"Mary's Blend" tea--a taste bud tin-
gling cherry and almond black tea in
honor of Mary Todd Lincoln will be
served. The tea is a signature offer-
ing of the museum and is available
for purchase in themuseumstore.
Tickets for the Mad Hatter Tea
are $25 for Friends of the Plymouth
Historical Museum members and
$30 for non-members, if purchased
byMarch 1 (add $5 to the ticket price
after that date), and can be pur-
chased at the Plymouth Historical
Museum during open hours, or on
the website at http://www.plymouth-
history.org/Events.html using
PayPal.
Ticket holders who come early
that day are also invited to enjoy the
Museum's special exhibit, "Made in

Book signing set inNorthville
Sandra Novacek, widow of
author Charles Novacek, will sign
copies of Border Crossing: Coming
of Age in the Czech Resistance from
10-11:30 a.m. at Next Chapter
Bookstore and Bistro in Northville
on March 8. The book is her hus-
band's posthumously published
memoir of his survival amid the
Nazi and Communist occupations of
Czechoslovakia.
Border Crossings has been
endorsed byMadeleineAlbright and
has been a finalist or winner of 14
independent book awards.
The same day, Belleville author
Jan Mccombs will sign copies of her
book, My Father's Secret, from 11:30
a.m. until 1 p.m. at The Next
Chapter Book Store and Bistro,
located at 141 E. Main St. in
Northville.
My Father's Secret is a novel that
deals with the struggle of a woman
seeking to uncover the mysterious
reasons behind the sudden turmoil
inher life.
Copies of both books will be for
sale during the event.
