Jeanette Williams, a recreation
and facility specialist with Canton
Township, has earned the
Certified Park and Recreation
Executive (CPRE) certification
granted by the National
Certification Board in conjunction
with the National Recreation and
Park Association (NRPA). The
CPRE program recognizes
advanced skills and competencies
related to the professional prac-
tice and delivery of park and
recreation programs and services.
Williams is one of just 52 profes-
sionals nation-wide to earn this
newly established certification
after successfully meeting rigor-
ous qualifications.
To earn the CPRE certification,
individuals must hold a current
Certified Park and Recreation
Professional (CPRP) certification,
meet specific requirements for
education and experience, and
successfully pass an examination
covering a comprehensive set of
topics including communication,
finance, human resources, opera-
tions andplanning.
Williams has worked in parks
and recreation for more than 10
years and has been in her current
role with Canton Township for the
past six years. Through her work
with Canton Leisure Services, she
has supervised programs in the
areas of Aquatics, Health and
Wellness, Special Events, training
and staff development. To further
her education, Williams will grad-
uate in April 2012 with a masters
degree in business administration.
“Professional development has
always been a big component of
my career path. I felt that it was a
good way for me to learn more
about all aspects of Parks and
Recreation; especially in the areas
of park management and business
operations,”Williams said.
“We're very proud that one of
our employees took the initiative
to be one of first parks and recre-
ation professionals in the country
to achieve this certification,” said
Debbie Bilbrey-Honsowetz,
Canton Leisure Services director.
“It's hard work and dedication like
this that contributes to the ongoing
success of our department and
ultimately enables us to better
meet the changing needs of our
community.”

Joint water agreement extended
The City of Westland has extended the
agreement to share water department serv-
iceswithCantonTownship.
The agreement, which themunicipalities
finalized in June of 2011, calls for Westland
to share the cost of a Canton Township
employee who will assist Westland in moni-
toring the city water distribution systemand
overseeing Westland's compliance with the
State of Michigan. The agreement complies
with Michigan Safe Water Drinking Act
requirements and affords Westland the pro-
fessional expertise of Canton employees
who will regularly meet with Westland
Department of Public Service officials, per-
form site visits as needed, collaborate on
reports and on other matters related to
Westland's water system, according to
WestlandMayorWilliamR.Wild.
The agreement with Canton Township
has proven to be a success and has helped
both communities fulfill requirements con-
cerning municipal service sharing put forth
by Governor Snyder. Canton Township will
continue to bill the City of Westland on an
hourly basis as work is performed, Wild
added.
“Westland and Canton Township have a
good working relationship and this agree-
ment makes sense for all involved,” Wild
said.
“Westland looks forward to more agree-
ments with Canton Township and other
cities to collaborate in endeavors such as
this for providing high quality services to
area residents andbusinesses,” he added.
