Members of the Westland City
Council have approved the sale
of the former Hawthorne Valley
Golf Clubproperty for $500,000.
During the first meeting of
2018, council members author-
ized Mayor William R. Wild and
the city attorney to enter into
negotiations to finalize the sale of
the property, located on
Merriman Road, north of Warren
Road. The city purchased the
property at a tax sale afterWayne
Country foreclosed on the site.
The business has been closed
since 2011.
The buyer of the property,
which includes the golf course
and a restaurant building, is
Three Oaks Development and
Advisory Services which, accord-
ing to representatives, plans to
build attached condominiums on
the site. The concept, designed
with Liberty Housing Services, is
to provide independent living for
intellectually and developmen-
tally disabled adults along with
some single-family homes built
with accessibility for develop-
mentally disabled adults and
senior citizens, according to
information provided by the
company. The homes will be one
or two stories customized for
accessibility for handicapped
residents.
Wild said that the concept is a
community of adult disabled res-
idents who can live independent-
ly in the condominiums while
their families can reside in near-
by homes. He said that a similar
development in Saline is now at
full capacity, prompting develop-
ers to look for a second site.
Developers are planning to
construct 33 units on the site. If
the sales agreement is success-
fully negotiated, the project is
expected to begin this year.
If the sales agreement is successfully negotiated,
the project is expected to begin this year.
