Christmas
in the Capitol
Inkster seniors took a trip to
Lansing Dec. 8 hosted by
State Sen. David Knezek. The
senator invited 50 seniors to
join him as his guests for an
entire day in the Capitol, tak-
ing a close look at how state
government works. The sen-
iors got a first-hand look at the
Legislature in action during
the day-long event as
Knezek's guests.
The Romulus Chamber of Commerce
and Friends of the Romulus Library will
host a bowling night beginning at 7 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 20 at Romulus Lanes.
Bowling will begin promptly at 8 p.m.
The cost is $20 per person and $40 per
couple and include three games of bowl-
ing, shoe rental, pizza and pop. There will
be a 50/50 raffle and a cashbar available.
The event is limited to the first 72
bowlers who register. For tickets or infor-
mation, call (734) 893-0694.
sation. Meeting minutes indicated reasons
for the justification of a 2-percent increase
for the full-time officials were that some
department heads already are paid more
than the mayor, a small raise now would
eliminate a need for a larger one in 2019
and it help ensure qualified people would
seek office.
Councilman William Wadsworth said
he agreed city officials should be ade-
quately paid, but wasn't sure how well the
publicwould react to the raises.
“It's all about perception,” said
Wadsworth. “We've asked the public for a
millage for roads, the school is going to be
coming up next year asking for a millage.
It's hard-not that these individuals don't
deserve it.”
“I think we have to look at the big pic-
ture here,” agreed Abdo. “It doesn't look
good.”
Williams agreed that it would be good
to hear directly from the commissioners
before casting the final vote.
“I understand the compensation board
meets every two years, but we have to con-
sider the funding of the city, the revenue,”
saidWilliams. “I just don't agreewith their
recommendations.”
