Diabetes classes nowunder way
The
National
Kidney
Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) is
hosting a free health workshop in
Inkster from Jan. 9 to Feb. 13 to
help diabetic individuals improve
their health. TheDiabetes Personal
Action Toward Health (PATH) class
will meet from1-3 p.m. Wednesdays
at Cherry Hill Place, located at
29477CherryHill Road.
Registration for Diabetes PATH
is required and space is limited. To

Mayor addresses State of theCity
Romulus Mayor Alan Lambert
will give his annual State of the City
address at the noon meeting of the
Greater Romulus Chamber of
Commerce meeting Jan. 15 at the
Detroit Metro Airport Sheraton
Hotel.
Registration will begin at 11:30
a.m. and advance reservations will
be accepteduntil Jan. 10.
The hotel is located at 8000
Merriman Road in Romulus. The
cost is $15 for chamber members
and $18 for nonmembers.

International Festival returns
The International Festival will
return to The Village Theater at
Cherry Hill from 1-6 p.m. Jan. 12.
The event offers participants enter-
tainment and experiences celebrat-
ing diverse customs and traditions
on the main stage of The Village
Theater, located at 50400 Cherry
Hill Road inCanton.
The diversity of the Canton com-
munity will be celebrated through
song and dance from various cul-
tural groups, a spokesperson said.
Featured dance performances will
represent various cultures and
countries, including: India, Tahiti,
Hawaii, New Zealand, Ireland,
Scotland, China, the Middle East,
and theUnitedStates.
Numerous cultural exhibits will
be featured in the lobby and cultur-
al and desserts from various coun-
tries can also be purchased.
Tickets are $2 at the door. This
event is presented by the all volun-
teerMulticultural Committee of the
Canton Commission for Culture,
Arts andHeritage.

Vintage electronics on display
The Michigan Antique Radio
Club will sponsor a Vintage
Electronics Expo and sale from 9
a.m. until 2 p.m. Jan. 19 at the
Costick Activity Center in
Farmington. The Costick Center is
located at 28600 West 11 Mile Road
between Middlebelt and Inkster
roads.
This is a road show for col-
lectible electronics. There will be
free appraisals and well as ources
for repair and restoration of vintage
radios. Antique radio sets and elec-
tronics items including partswill be
on sale.
General admission is $5 for
adults and children younger than
14 are admitted at no cost.

Monarchs to be topic
Metamorphosis, the life story of
the Monarch Butterfly, will be the
topic at the 7 p.m. Jan. 16 meeting
of the Southeast Michigan Butterfly
Association (SEMBA).
There will be a film about the
beauty anddesign of butterflies and
a visit to the overwintering grounds
in Mexico of Monarch butterflies.

The Canton community will
once again honor the memory and
legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
with a special tribute, "Building
Bridges: Canton Celebrates Dr.

100 Days of Health under way
Canton Leisure Services will
once again partner with
Oakwood Healthcare System to
promote healthy living and com-
munity wellness during the “100
Days toHealth” programstarting
thismonth.
This popular fitness program
will officially begin at noon
Saturday, Jan.12 at the Summit
on the Park, located at 46000
Summit Parkway. Oakwood
Healthcare System staff mem-
bers will be on hand during the
inaugural event, providing
health screenings. Other activi-
ties planned during the event
include Summit tours, family
Zumba and snacks. Participants
can also enjoy a special open
swimstarting at 1:30 p.m.
This year, the program offers
everything needed to build a
healthier lifestyle, noted a
spokesman.
Registration is now available
online at Cantonfun.org, at the
Summit front desk, or at the 100
Days event. Registration fees for
Canton residents are $15 for
adults ages 12 and up and $5 for
youth ages 11 and under. Non-
resident fees are $25 for adults
12 and up and $5 for youth ages
11 and under. Youth and chil-
drenmust registerwith an adult.
Those registered will have
free access to all classes and
events on the 100 Days to Health
calendar. Participants can regis-
ter any time during the 100 Days
toHealthprogram.
This year, participants will
also receive a punch-card for
five free visits to the Summit on
the Park during the program,
classes and events offered at a
variety of convenient times to
accommodate busy schedules,
innovative new classes and the
return of some of our most popu-
lar events including Zumba, Boot
Camps, and Healthy Cooking
with Chef Paul, the spokesman
added.
