Honor students seek nominations
Members of the Plymouth-Canton
Educational Park National Honor Society
are seeking nominations of families or indi-
viduals to benefit from their annual SJ5K
run inMay.
Each year, the students select a family
who, as a result of unforeseen life-altering
circumstance, finds themselves with a spe-
cific need other thannormal living expects.
The run takes place on the high school
campus andbegan in 2011.
Nominations will be considered by the
Sj5K Committee. Nomination forms and
more information regarding the race can be

Crafty Storytime on Tuesday
The LeannaHicks Inkster Public Library
hosts Crafty Storytime from 5-6 p.m. every
Tuesday for children 10 years of age and
younger.
Parents and siblings are also welcome at
the hour when children can enjoy a story
and a fun craft.

RotaryClub sponsors trip
Wayne Rotary Club members are organ-
izing a trip to Firekeepers Casino departing
at 3 p.m. Jan. 11.
The $35 fee includes $20 in slot play and
$5 for food. The bus will depart from the

p.m. and leave the casino at 10 p.m. for the

Tax records are topic
The Northville Genealogy society will
host guest speaker Al Wakenhut, a profes-
sional genealogist and Northville native,
who will speak about the many aspects of
tax records. Taxes have been levied on real
estate, personal property and income by
local, regional and national governments
throughout the world. The public is invited
to attend, free of charge, the 1:15 p.m. Jan 12
meeting at the Northville District Library,

the Local History Room at the Northville
District Library from 1-3 p.m. Mondays and

Euchre tournament seeking players
Wayne Rotary Club members are organ-
izing a Euchre Tournament to benefit com-
munity projects of the club and the Wayne-
WestlandPark andRecreationDepartment.
The tournament will begin with check-in
at 6 p.m. with games starting at 7 p.m. Jan.
15. The event will take place at the Wayne
Community Center 4635 Howe Road in
Wayne. The cost is $20 per person and play-
ersmust be 21 or older.
There will be prizes for the top three
highest point total, raffles, a 50/50 drawing
andprizes. Refreshmentswill be available.

Food distribution planned
The next distribution of emergency food
by Plymouth Community United Way is
scheduled Thursday, Jan. 16. The
Emergency Food Assistance Program pro-
vides low-income Plymouth and Northville
residents with canned, non-perishable and
perishable items.
All recipients must pre-register at
Plymouth Community United Way, 960 W.
AnnArbor Trail, Suite 2, Plymouth.
This is a supplemental food program that
may be used in addition to other assistance
programs. Bridge Card holders automatical-
ly qualify, but need to pre-register.
Recipients not currently on governmental
assistance (food stamps, ADC and general)
must provide documentation including
proof of income and residency before
receiving food ondistributiondays.
Distributions continue from 9:30-11 a.m.
the third Thursday of each month at St.
KennethCatholicChurch inPlymouth.

Comedy benefit set
A comedy benefit to help the family of
Cindia Hensley withmounting medical bills
and expenses is planned for 6:30 p.m. Jan.
18 at the Romulus Progressive Hall, 11580
OzgaRoad inRomulus.
A donation of $10 is requested and pizza
at $1 a slice will be available along with
soda, water of beer, $5 for red solo cups with
free refills.

Antique radios on display
The Michigan Antique Radio Club will
sponsor a Vintage Electronics Expo and
sale from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Jan. 18 at the
Costick Activity Center in Farmington. The
center is located at 28600West 11Mile Road
betweenMiddlebelt and Inkster roads.
This is the road show for collectible elec-
tronics which offers free appraisals as well
as sources for repair and restoration of vin-
tage radios.
Admission is $5 for adults and children
younger than 14 are admitted at no cost.

Teddy Bear Picnic planned
Boys and girls are invited to bring their
favorite teddy bear for special bear-themed
activity from11 a.m. until 12:30 Jan. 19 at the
NorthvilleCommunityCenter.
The fee is $8 per person and included an
indoor picnic with blankets, baskets and a
special teddy bear dessert. The program is
designed for children 3-8. Parents are wel-
come to sty, butmust register.
Grief support offered
Arbor Hospice is offering a round of free
grief support programs in Plymouth.
Support groups and events are open to
everyone, regardless of whether their loved
one received services from Arbor Hospice.
All programs are free, but donations are
welcome.
An eight-week group, Loss of a Spouse or
Partner, will take place from 2-3:30 p.m. Jan.
26 through March 16 at Arbor Hospice,

Daddy Daughter Dance set
The City of Plymouth Recreation
Department will sponsor the third annual
Daddy Daughter Dance from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Friday, Jan. 31 andSaturday, Feb. 1, 2014.
The dance will take place at the Cultural
Center Reception Room, 525 Farmer in
Plymouth and will include a DJ, light
refreshments and snacks. Souvenir photos
and packages will be available to order.
Semi-formal, dressy-casual attire is recom-
mended.
Advance ticket purchase is required and
no walk-ins will be accepted. The cost is $10
per person.

Tai Chi classes offered
Tai Chi classes started from 9 - 10:30 a.m.
today and will continue through Feb. 7 at
thePlymouthCommunityCenter.
Students can learn the beautiful Chinese
art of Tai Chi Chuan. The class offers a
blend of training for the body, mind, and
spirit for students ages 14 and above - but
focusing on senior citizens. The class will
include instruction in the Tai Chi form, Chi
Kung (internal energy skill), meditation, and
practical application and self-defense. Tai
Chi will increase your fitness, health, stami-
na, and flexibility, regardless of experience
or level of fitness.
The class fee is $65 or $50 for City of
