Job Fair set inWestland
Mayor William R. Wild's
"Westland Works" Team is help-
ing to put residents to work with
an upcoming job fair for employ-
ment opportunities with
Advanced Engineering. The job
fair will take place from 9 a.m.
until noon Saturday, Jan. 10 at
the Westland City Hall Grande
Ballroom, 36300 Warren Road in
Westland.
Advanced Engineering spe-
cializes in stamping and is locat-
ed in Canton. Open positions
include a variety of different
opportunities, and the company
is looking to hire 30 individuals
immediately.
Applicants must have
attained a GED or graduated
high school, be able to pass a
drug test, and applicants should
bring a resume and valid driver's
license.
Interested individuals will be
able to fill out an application at
the event and possibly be inter-
viewed that day.

The Plymouth District
Library will offer visitors to the
Ice Festival warm cider and a
Disney sing-along from 1-4 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 11 during the
Plymouth IceFestival.
The family-friendly event is

Members of the only 3D pho-
tography club in Michigan will
meet from 7-9:30 p.m.

Livonia Civic Park Senior

Meetings include a 3D pro-
gram, refreshment break, and a
competition among members.
Stereo cameras, 3D movies and
educational videos are available

The January meeting will
feature 3D images from stereo
clubs around the world. Also,

Ambulance volunteers needed
Huron Valley Ambulance is
recruiting for its Volunteer Team
and seeking individuals interest-
ed in training for a variety of vol-
unteer positions.
Volunteers can train to be a
medical first responder at spe-
cial events or to assist with com-
munity education, awareness
programs, and administrative
tasks.

There is free training formed-
ical first responders during an
eight-week training program
beginning Feb. 23. Classes meet
from 6-10:30 p.m. Monday and
Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until
5 p.m. three Saturdays. Students
who successfully complete the
course are eligible to take the
state examination to be certified
as aMedical First Responder.
Free training also provided
for citizens interested in commu-
nity education and administra-
tive support volunteer positions.

Drugs 101 class set
Educators from Saint Joseph
Mercy Health System will travel
toHillsideMiddle School to edu-
cate parents, grandparents,
coaches, teachers and adminis-
trators about the various forms
of drugs and the peer pressures
facing students to use them. The
presentation is titled Drugs
101:What Parents Want to Know
and is sponsored by the
NorthvillePublic Schools.
The two-hour presentation
starts at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 21, when
participants will enter a mock
bedroom of a teenager that has
been set up to resemble a
teenage drug user's room.
Participants are asked to identi-
fy drug and alcohol related para-
phernalia that have been placed
within the room.
Throughout the presentation,
more than 70 trendy drug and
alcohol indicators will be
unveiled to show how some ado-
lescents hide drug and alcohol
use.
The goal of this program is to
empower participants with the
knowledge they need to spot
warning signs of drug abuse in
time to intervene and/or prevent
it.

Drama club to perform
The Northville High School
Drama Club will present Almost,
Maine, a play by John Cariani at
7 p.m. Jan. 30 and 31 and at 1
p.m. Feb. 1.
The play is broken into nine
simultaneous stories that
explore the pursuit of love and
the hazards of loss in a remote,
mythical almost-town called
Almost, Maine.
All tickets will be sold at the
general admission price of $10
and will be available at the box
office one hour prior to eachper-

WildGameDinner planned
The Wayne County Fair
Association will host a Wild
Game benefit dinner at 6:15 p.m.
Jan. 17 at the Wayne County
Fairgrounds.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
for the event. All proceeds will
be used for the upkeep of the
Wayne County Fairgrounds, a
nonprofit organization.
Dinner tickets are $30 if pur-
chased in advance and $35 if
purchased at the door. The
event will take place at the
Wayne County Fairgrounds,

Eagles celebrateMardi Gras
Tickets are now on sale for
"Mardi Gras Around the World"
at the Van Buren Eagles on
Friday, Feb. 27.
Tickets are $15 in advance
and $20 at the door, if available.
The tickets cover an all-you-
can-eat buffet dinner - soup,
salad, three entrees and trim-
mings and dessert. Social hour is
from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed
by dinner from6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
