'Friends' to clean trail
The Friends of the I-275 Metro Trail are plan-
ning a trail cleanup day from 9 a.m. until noon,
this Saturday, April 14. They will be working in
Canton Township on the section of trail north of
Van Born Road. Volunteers will m between 9
a.m. and noon in the driveway on the north side
of Van Born just east of I-275. There is no Van
Born exit, so helpers will need to use either
Michigan Avenue or Ecorse Road exit and take
Haggerty or Hannan to Van Born - then look for
the sign.
Friends will be working on clearing out win-
ter washouts, so bring flat shovel, scrapers, stiff-
bristled brooms and metal leaf rakes. Tools for
pruning vegetation will be helpful, as would a
gas-powered leaf-blower.
Water and a light snack will be available.

T-Ball registration nowopen
Registration for 5 and 6-year-old co-ed T-Ball
is now under way in Plymouth. Registrations will
be accepted in the recreation office from noon
until 4:30 p.m. weekdays through April 13.
To register online, parents must have an
email address on file, and a username and
password. For help in establishing a user name
and password, e email recreation@ci.ply-

Players must be born July-December 2005,
January-December 2006, or January-July 2007.
Volunteer coaches are still needed and all
head coaches' children play for free. The fee for
City of Plymouth residents is $65 and non-resi-
dents pay $85.

City garage sales planned
The ice will be removed from the Plymouth
Cultural Ice Arena for two city-wide garage sales
this year.
The sales are planned for 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
May 12 and June 9 but reservations for seller
spaces are nowbeing accepted.
A 10 by 10 space can be rented for $20, but
the spaces are limited.
Buyers are admitted to the sales at no cost.

Women's art on exhibit
The Ann Arbor Women Artists Juried All-
Media exhibit will continue through April 21 dur-
ing Northville Art House hours from 1-5 p.m.
Wednesdays through Saturdays. The Art House

American Songbook returns
Six vocalists will be crooning the classic
standards of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat
King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis, Jr.,

April 14 at the Theater at Cherry Hill in Canton
Township.
The show, A Salute to the Great American
Songbook was a great success at the same
venue each of the last two years, according to
producer KevinBrazell, aCanton resident.
Tickets for the show are $20 with a $5 dis-
count for senior citizens, children 14 and

Church sponsors bingo
St. Aloysius Parish in Romulus is sponsoring
a cash bingo game from 1-10 p.m. April 14 at

Cards are priced at five for $1 or a quarter
per card. There is an hourly coverall for $1 and
cash prizes will be paid on all bingos.

A boys mentoring program is planned for
boys 7-18 beginning April 15 at the Thomas

Grief support group begins
A grief support group for those who have
lost a spouse or partner will beginwith the first of
six weekly sessions at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17
at the Brown Family Center, 678 E. Huron River
Dr. inBelleville.
The sessions will end at 12:30 and evening
groups and individual support sessions are also

College trust meeting set
College savings experts from the Michigan
Education Trust (MET) will be available at the
Plymouth Library from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Tuesday, April 17.
The representatives will answer questions
and help parents, grandparents and other
through the process of purchasing a MET con-
tract.
Purchasers will need Social Security num-
bers for themselves, the contract beneficiary
and any third party named on the contract. The
usual $25 processing fee will be waived for
thosewho enroll at the session.

National VFWAuxiliary president visits
Gwendolyn Rankin, the National Ladies
Auxiliary President of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars will visit Michigan in April.
A dinner in her honor is planned at VFW

ning with the Aisle of Flags at 6 p.m. April 17.
The Junior Girls of the Veterans of Foreign Wars

Garden enhancements discussed
Butterfly Garden Enhancements will be the
topic of the discussion of the Southeast
Michigan Butterfly Association at 7 p.m.

Grief workshops offered
Emmanuel Lutheran Church is sponsoring
an eight week grief workshop, "From Grief to
New Hope" beginning on April 18. This free
workshop is open to the community and will
take place from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday
evenings.
Each session will begin with a talk about
one aspect of grief followed by small group par-
ticipation led by trained facilitators. Each person
will be placed in a group with others who have
had similar losses.

The State of the Community Luncheon will
feature officials from both the city and township
of Northville at MeadowbrookCountry Club.

Test Drive for Turf
Dick Scott, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep & Ram
will support the efforts of the Northville Turf Club,
a group raising funds for new turf at the school
district Eight Mile Road playing field, with a Test
Drive for Turf fundraiser from 4-7:30 p.m. April
19.
The Plymouth dealership will host test drives
of their new Grand Caravan, Journey, Durango
and Charger in the East Parking Lot at Northville
High School. Each test drive that is taken will
earn the Turf Club $20 toward the stadium reno-
vation project.
PENNdemonium is planned
The Seventh Annual "PENNdemonium"
Dinner Auction to benefit Friends of the Pennwill
take place from 6-11 p.m. on Friday, April 20, at
the Meeting House Grand Ballroom in down-
town Plymouth.
The evening includes hors d'oeuvres, a plat-
ed dinner with a choice of entrée, full open bar,
dessert, raffle, live and silent auction, music and

Lions plan poker tournament
A weekend of poker and other card games
will provide some invaluable aid to those who
suffer from impaired sight in the Canton com-
munity.
Canton Lions Club members will be at Trip
Kings Poker Roomat 8669N. Lilley Road (south
of Joy) in Canton from noon to 2 a.m. Friday
through Sunday April 20-22, Lion Bill VanWinkle
said.
Funds generated during the three days will
be used to benefit Penrickton Center for Blind
and handicapped children, Leader Dog School
for the blind and local residents who are unable
to purchase some of the necessities of life.
Funds to purchase eye glasses for school chil-
dren and elderly people who require visual and
hearing aids are also included in the fundraising
effort, he added.
DivaDay set in Plymouth
The 4th Annual Diva Day will take place in
downtown Plymouth from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Saturday, April 21. The first 500 Divas will get
freeDivaGlasses.
Little Divas and Diva Dogs are also wel-
come.
More than 30 shops, boutiques, salons and
restaurants will present special offers, unique
refreshments, and chances to win Diva Day
prizes.

Barrels and bins to be sold
The Alliance of Rouge Communities (ARC)
is planning a Rain Barrel and Compost Bin sale
from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at the
Livonia Civic Hall, located at 33000 Civic Center
Drive.
The 55-gallon rain barrels are valued at $150
but will be sold for $65. The 77-gallon compost
bins are valued at $100 but will be sold for $55.
Quantities are limited and will be sold on a first-
come, first-serve basis.

deadline for pre-orders is Monday, April 16. All
pre-orders must be picked up on April 21 at the

Inkster women sponsor play
The Inkster WesternWayne County produc-
tion of The VaginaMonologues will take place at
the Allen Park Community Theater complex
from4-7:30 p.m. April 27.
Inkster women are currently selling wrist-
bands imprinted with Stop The Violence for $1
to help fund the production which is an effort to
stop violence against women and girls.

Historic characters visit park
The Plymouth Historical Museum is plan-
ning to host a "Plymouth Characters at Kellogg
Park" walk.
The walks will begin at 2 p.m. April 28 with

Caregiving conferences slated
The 11th Annual Partners in Family
Caregiving Conferences provides the informa-
tion and resources caregivers need to take care
of both themselves and their care recipients.
Events will feature informational displays, work-
shops, giveaways and a variety of professionals
to help caregivers find the information and
resources they need.
Free health and hearing screenings will be
provided throughout the conferences. The con-
ferences are free to attend and are will take
place throughout Wayne County, including
Canton Township and Inkster.
Conferences have been scheduled for noon
until 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Booker
Dozier RecreationCenter, 2025Middlebelt Road
in Inkster and from 5:50-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 8
