Music man
Marching band will be led by award-winning director
When the Northville High School
marching band members troupe by
during the 4th of July Parade this year,
they will be led by Michael Rumbell, a
truemusicman.
He's been at his art for as long as he
can remember, “Fourth grade,” the
high school band director said, “I start-
edplaying the flute.”
A few years later, he switched to
trombone, now his main instrument.
Rumbell, selected as Teacher of the
Year for District 12 by members of the
Michigan School Band and Orchestra
Association, has been at Northville
HighSchool since 1972.
“I got a call saying I was to report to
Northville on a Monday and I haven't
left,” he recalled of his bachelor's and
master's programs at the University of
Michigan in musical performing and
conducting. He was a student of the
famedWilliamReveille at U-M.
