He motors easily with “three on the
tree” near their home, noting “That's
the generation I grew up in, that's
when I started to drive. I think the '50s
are themost good-looking.”
He has three cars on the road now,
and one he's working on, “not counting
the golf carts.” In the couple's backyard
sits a Coca-Cola trailer he bought from
aFarmingtonHillsman for $300.
Haas already owned the 1950s man-
nequin, which is dressed in '50s attire
and sits as if at a soda shop enjoying a
coldCoke.
He keeps the right door open on the
red and white sedan, which has been
to the “World of Coke” in Atlanta,
Georgia, where Coca-Cola has head-
quarters.
He's working now on a 1956 Ford
four-door hardtop, and works several
hours a day, noting “It depends on how
I'm feeling.” He's restored cars since
1982 and the couple's been married 56
years.
As he motors nearby streets of Lyon
Township, which includes a Northville
mailing addresses, Haas is happy to
talk cars. Modified valves mean the '54
Ford can take regular, unleaded fuel.
He's traveledRoute 66 in the Ford, and
visitedPikes Peak inColorado.
“I've driven this quite a few places,”
he noted of the odometer with more
than 100,000 miles and the convertible
going strong.
