After 13 years on the assembly line at Ford Motor Co. R.
W. Ditto knew it was time for a change. So when the compa-
ny offered him a buyout in 2007, he took advantage of the
offer, used the funds to change not only his career path but
his name.
Ditto, as he is now known professionally, enrolled at
Henry Ford Community College to pursue a degree in culi-
nary arts, something that had interested him since child-
hood. He earned his degree in the specialty in 2012, along
witha degree inhotel and restaurantmanagement.
During his studies at the college, he joined the Ice
Carving Club and found he had a real talent for sculpting
the ice blocks into works of art. As his skill progressed with
both the chain saw and chisel, he competed with the club at
the Plymouth Ice Festival for three years, along with his fel-
lowclubmembers.
“In 2012 we took first place in team competitive carving.
