Ice Festival organizer hopes to build event each year
There are two attractions not to be
missed during the Ice Festival in
Plymouth this year, advises the man
who really ought to know.
James Geitzen, owner of JAG
Entertainment, is the man behind the
scenes who has organized and planned
the event this year.
“I don't think anybody should miss
the Fire and Ice Towers wewill light up
on Friday and Saturday nights at about
7 or 7:30. We have 16 blocks of ice
stacked as a chimney, loaded them up
with wood and then we ignite it. It is
something to see,” he said.
Geitzen also recommends the stu-
dent ice carving competitions that will
take place in Kellogg Park and the
wood carver who works with a chain
saw is also one of his favorites.
This is Geitzen's first year in charge
of the event and he said that while
finances were certainly a factor, scaling
the event back to a more manageable
sizewasn't a bad idea.
“There are still somany things to see
and do, really,” he said. “Most of the big
ice will be in Kellogg Park, but down on
Forest Street there are the Lincoln,
Cadillac and Mustang sculptures. Sun
and Snow will again have the cross
country skiing for kids this year and the
Hot Spot will be open in the Gathering.
Kids can have their faces painted and
all the festival favorite food vendorswill
be there,” he said.
