Christmas magic was in full effect in
and aroundRomulus recently as
three groups from Romulus High
School demonstrated the reason for the
seasonby giving to others.
Members of the Romulus High School
Family Career Community Leaders of
America (FCCLA) chapter, led by teacher
LisaWillerick, have won goldmedals over
the years at the state andnational level for
their dedication to the community. Their
work, however, always begins at the local
level as they demonstrated recently.
Members of the chapter spent the day at
the Romulus Senior Center helping serve
and entertain during the annual
Christmas dinner. The students not only
helped serve the meals, visited with the
seniors, and then helped clean up after
theholidaymeal.
The National Honor Society Members
at the school also participated in giving
festivities of their own. National Honor
Society members select one elementary
school each year, and then provide an
opportunity for kindergarten, and special
education students to Christmas shop for
two people in their family. This year, stu-
dents at Barth Elementary were able to
select items at no cost, a gift from the
National Honor Society.
“We accept monetary donations and
gift items all year round. The whole expe-
rience really puts smiles on the kids
faces,” said group advisor Kathy Rice. To

The staff at Romulus High School was
also on the receiving end of the seasonal
spirit of giving.
AlexiaMancilla-Jackson and her LIFT
students invited more than 100 guests,
many of them staff members, to enjoy a
free, catered lunch. The luncheon allows
school personnel to catch up and mingle
with co-workers while the LIFT (Learning
Independence For Transition) program
students learn valuable life skills in the
process.
The Belleville Area Chamber
of Commerce will host the annu-
al Awards Dinner, Holiday Party
and Chinese Auction on
Saturday, Jan. 13, at Angel Food
Catering. Ticket cost is $50 per
person and includes a three-
course buffet meal, beverages,
beer and wine. Tables of eight
can be purchased at a discount
rate of $360, which is a $5 sav-
ings per ticket. Ticket prices
will increase after the first of the
year and at the door.
The evening will include the
presentation of the Ted
Kuckelman, Leona Van Buhler
and Business of the Year
awards, dinner entertainment
provided by Piano Wars, and a
Chinese Auction rounding out
the evening. Chamber member-
ship awards will also be present-
ed.
Chamber representatives are
currently seeking sponsorships
for the event. Sponsors will be
acknowledged at the event.
Items are also being accepted
for the Chinese Auction. Pick-
ups of donations can be
arranged and all those making a
donation will be acknowledged
at the event. Without the gener-
ous support of numerous indi-
viduals and businesses, these
events would not be possible,
officials said.
To purchase tickets, donate,
or for more information, contact
the Chamber of Commerce
office (734) 697-7151.
