Activities planned include swimming, arts

Santa to attend brunch
Van Buren Township Recreation
Department will host Brunch With Santa
from11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Dec. 16 at VanBuren
TownshipHall.
Pancakes by King Brothers, sausage, milk,
orange juice and coffeewill be served.
The Jitterbugs Elite Dance Group will
entertain and there will be a craft to make
after brunch.
The cost is $6 per person, children
younger than 3 are admitted at no cost.

Men's 'Panic Party' planned
Plymouthdowntown shops are hosting the
men's Panic Party from 5-9 p.m. Dec. 17 with
special wish lists from women and sales.
Men can then take their receipt(s) to one of
the participating pubs or restaurants and
enjoy special features after all that shopping.
Participating shops include: Agio Spa;
Bella Mia; Creatopia; Dazzling Daniela;
Dearborn Jewelers; Hands on Leather;

Distribution of emergency food by
Plymouth Community United Way is sched-
uled from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec.
20.
The Emergency Food Assistance Program
provides low-income Plymouth and
Northville residents with canned and non-
perishable items.
All recipientsmust be pre-registered. This
is a supplemental food program that may be
used in addition to other assistance pro-
grams. Bridge Card holders automatically
qualify, but need to pre-register. Recipients
not currently on governmental assistance
(food stamps, ADC and general) must provide
documentation including proof of income
and residency before receiving food on dis-
tributiondays.
Distributions continue the third Thursday
of each month from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St.
KennethCatholicChurch inPlymouth.

Seniors celebrate holiday
The Wayne Golden Hour Christmas Party
will take place at the Wayne Community
Center beginning at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 20.
There will be a punch reception followed
by lunchat noon.
Tickets can be purchased for $12 at the
WayneCommunityCenter, 4635HoweRoad.
Member appreciation day set
The Wayne Westland Parks and
Recreation Department will host a Holiday
Member appreciation Day at the Wayne
Community Center, from 5:30 a.m. until 9
p.m. Dec. 26.
There will be free use of all amenities
including the indoor pool, exercise club, ice
arena, indoor track and dry/wet saunas.
There will be health snacks and gifts during
the day.

NorthvilleNite party planned
The Northville Parks and Recreation
Department will host the Northville Nite
party from 4-7 p.m. at the Recreation Center
atHillside school.
This year the theme will be Through the
Decades and visitors will return to the
Roaring 20s and travel through time to the
future.
Activities will include crafts, inflatable
games, entertainment and more. The
Northville Rotary Clubmembers will be sell-
ing hot dogs, pizza and beverages. At 7 p.m.
therewill be an earlyNewYears countdown.

Kwanzaa to be celebrated.
A celebration of Kwanzaa, with a focus on
the principle of Imani (faith) will take place
from 3-6 p.m. NewYears Day at the Romulus
Civic League, 11495 Wahrman St. in
Romulus.
Therewill be fellowship and food served.
The event is sponsored by the Romulus
Civic League and the Kheper-Ra Study
Group of Detroit.
"Through faith in ourselves, our communi-
ties, our leaders, our creator, we will reflect
on our past, take control of our present and
catch the vision for our future, together," a
spokesperson said.

Grammy Award-winning country
superstar LeeGreenwoodwill kick off the
holiday season at Wayne County
Community College District (WCCCD)
Heinz C. Prechter Educational and
Performing Arts Center at 3 p.m. Sunday,
Dec. 16. The Educational and Performing
Arts Center is located on the WCCCD
Downriver Campus at 21000 Northline
Road inTaylor.
Greenwood will celebrate the holidays
with Christmas standards such as “White
Christmas” and “Joy to theWorld.” Tickets
are $38 and $45, and group rates also are
available.
Greenwood became a national institu-
tion with his widely loved “God Bless the
USA,” which was voted the most recogniz-
able patriotic song in theU.S., andwithhis
naming as the CountryMusic Association's
Male Vocalist of the Year. He also is the
national spokesperson for Operation
Never Forgotten (ONF), an all-volunteer
national nonprofit that works to educate
the civilian public on how to recognize our
deployed troops, fallen heroes, veterans,
woundedwarriors andmilitary families.
WCCCD is partnering with the Taylor
VFW Post 4422 during Greenwood's per-
formance to collect non-perishable items
such as jerky, gum, individually packaged
wet wipes, detergent pods and bug spray
for distribution to active duty service
members. Collection boxes will be located
in the theater lobby.
