Health center celebrates move
Wayne City Council will fill
2 terms with appointments
Western Wayne Family Health Centers,
serving the Inkster and surrounding areas
since 2005, celebrated a grand opening
Oct. 29.
“We've tripled our patient care space-
now we have 39 medical exam rooms, six
dental operatories and offices for our
behavioral health staff,” said Linda Atkins,
CEO. “In our previous location we had
limited rooms and that added unnecessary
delays for our patients. Now we not only
have room to deliver the best care to our
patients, but to grow to better serve more
families.” There are separate areas for
adult, pediatric and women's health care,
along with administrative staff offices in
the new center which is very close to the
former location.
Recognition and congratulations were
offered at the grand opening by former
Inkster Mayor Hilliard Hampton, State
Reps. Julie Plawecki and Erika Geiss, for-
mer County Commissioner Richard
LeBlanc and staff members from the
offices of Sen. Debbie Stabenow, Congress
Reps. DebbieDingell and JohnConyers, as
well as representatives from the offices of
state Sen. David Knezek and County
ExecutiveWarrenEvans.
The address has changed to 2700
Hamlin Blvd., which is immediately
behind the Inkster post office. The facility
has kept the same phone number, (313)561-
5100. More information can be found at
or on Facebook at
WesternWayneFamilyHealthCenters.
Western Wayne Family Health Center
has locations in Inkster, Taylor andLincoln
Park and provided care to over 11,000
patients in 2014 with more than 32,000
encounters. Primary medical, general
dentistry and behavioral health services
are open to all, regardless of health insur-
ance status.
Most insurance are accepted, including
all Wayne County Medicaid and Healthy
Michigan Plan coverage, and a sliding fee
scale is available for those without health
insurance. Insurance application assis-
tance is also offered.
Members of the Wayne City Council
will fill two vacancies with appoint-
mentswithin the next fewweeks.
Mayor Susan Rowe resigned her
council seat when she was elected as
mayor and last week, former Mayor Jim
Hawley submitted his resignation to the
council. Hawley said he and his wife
were retiring andmoving toFlorida.
Rowe's seat must be filled by Dec. 17,
according to the Wayne City Charter,
while the council will have until Jan. 4
to appoint someone to fill the remainder
ofHawley's term.
The council has already received let-
ters of interest in Rowe's term from
eight residents. Among those expressing
interest are Rowe's opponent for the
mayor's seat, Bob Boertje; Ernestine
Carter; Ryan Gabriel; former City
Councilman David James; Jill Lezotte-
Cates ; former City Councilman
Matthew Mulholland, Mike Smith and
RichardTerry Sutton.
Local officials were on hand recently to celebrate the official grand opening of the new
Western Wayne Family Health Center in Inkster. From left, former Wayne County
Commissioner Richard LeBlanc; State Rep. Julie Plawecki; board members Bishop
Walter Starghill Jr., David Ippel and William Miller; former Inkster Mayor Hilliard
Hampton; board member Carolyn Kimbrough; CEO Linda Atkins; State Rep. Erika
Geiss; board chair Pete Bergeron; board members Karl Laub and Patty Campbell and
Inkster Fire Chief John Adams were all smiles at the official ribbon cutting at the new
facility.
Pennies
for patients
Keith Martinez, a third-grade
student
at
Edison
Elementary school, helped
coordinate the 4th annual
Pennies for Patient campaign
at the school recently. The
campaign, a fundraiser for
the
Leukemia
and
Lymphoma Society, is a service program that actively involves students and
teaches the importance of helping others. The school raised $1,230.57 to help
cure leukemia, lymphoma and Hodgkin's disease. Students filled individual coin
boxes at home then poured their money into classroom boxes to participate in a
school-wide contest. Michelle Paul's kindergarten class won a free lunch from
Olive Garden for bringing in the most donations.
