County Lightfest to open
Wayne County Executive Robert
Ficano and Santa will flip the switch to
light up more than four miles of Hines
Drive for the 21st annual Lightfest grand
opening at 6 tonight at Merriman Hollow
in Hines Park, at Merriman Road and
HinesDrive inWestland.
The event is free and open to the pub-
lic and will feature music, entertainment,
refreshments and a fireworks show.
This year, several new displays have
been added and the entire light show has
been converted to energy efficient LED
lights. The largest drive through light
show in the Midwest, the Lightfest fea-
tures more than 55 giant, animated holi-
day-themeddisplays.
The Lightshow will continue through
Dec. 31. It is closed onChristmasDay.
Legislator hosts coffee hour
State Rep. Kurt Heise is hosting coffee
hours to give residents a convenient
opportunity to meet with him locally and
discuss state or local issues.
Heise will be available to talk with res-
idents from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov.
21 at Panera Bread, located at 400 S.
Main Street in Plymouth. No appoint-
ment is necessary.
Heise is also available to meet with
constituents by appointment either in the
district or at his Lansing office. Residents

to schedule an appointment.
Museumexhibit continues
The Plymouth Historical Museum
exhibit, Twas theNight Before Christmas,
will continue through Jan. 11, 2015. The
exhibit features several Christmas stories
and movies from the past two centuries,
including many family favorite classics in
vignettes anddisplays.
Beginning Nov. 29, Santa will visit the
museum every Saturday and will be at
themuseumfrom10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Dec.
6 during the Annual Craft Bazaar and
openhouse.
The museum is located at 155 S. Main
St.. Hours are 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 for
adults and $2 for students ages 6-17.

Bargains toBounty programoffered
Jolyn Felten of BargainstoBounty.com
will present a program on couponing at
the Romulus Community Library. She
will teach audiencemembers how to save
money using coupons and how to get the
most bang for a buck this holiday season.
This event will begin at 2 p.m. Nov. 22.

HolidayGreensMarket open
The annual Holiday Greens Market
will take place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Saturday Nov. 22 and from 11 a.m. until 3
p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 at Northville Towns
Square.
Holiday roping, wreaths, centerpieces,
decorations and accessories will be for
sale at themarket.
Holiday Art Sale set
The Plymouth Community Arts
Council has planned the Annual Art Sale
from10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Nov. 22.
The sale will include giftable art work
by local artists for everyone including
hand illustrated ornaments, felted mit-
tens, artists card packs, pieces form the
Western Michigan University Ceramics
Guild, fused glass, gift certificates, origi-
nal handmade jewelry, photographs,
hand printed gift boxes, a bake sale and
more.

Art House exhibits set
The Northville Art House will present
the 2014 International Mosaic Exhibit
and Auction which includes a collection
of 141mosaic artworks fromartists repre-
senting 13 countries.
The works are an example of the
diverse creativity in this again-burgeon-
ing art form. The work may be viewed at
the Art House and is available for bid in
an auction benefitting Doctors Without
Borders at the online auction website:

MSFNov. 22 through 5 p.m. Dec. 6.
Showcased in the lower level of the
Art House is The Art of Light, the theme
of the Northville Camera Club which is
the largest event of the year for the club.
Members are invited to participate in this
show and it's the one time of year that
their local photographic talent can be
seen in one place.
This exhibit will continue throughout
November and December in the lower
level gallery at theNorthvilleArtHouse.
Church hosts card party
SS Simon and Jude Church, 32500
Palmer Road in Westland will host a
Winter Card Party from 6:30-10 p.m. Nov.
21.
There will be dorr and table prizes, a
50-50 drawing and a light meal and
snacks available.
Tickets are $8 per person and avail-
able at the door.

Thanksgiving concert planned
More than 100 voices will join in cele-
brating Thanksgiving with a music festi-
val featuring choral anthems accompa-
nied by handbells, organ and piano, as
well as an audience sing-along of familiar
Thanksgiving hymns.
Adult choirs from Plymouth churches
will combine for a Thanksgiving Choir
Festival at First United Methodist
Churchat 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23.
Admission is free and a freewill offer-
ing will be collected to benefit the
Salvation Army. First United Methodist
Church is located at 45201 North
Territorial Road, a mile east of Beck
Road, and offers ample parking and bar-
rier-free entrance.

Contra dancing at Mill Race Village
Mill Race Village will host Contra
dancing to a live band with introductory
lessons at 12:30 and dancing beginning at
1 p.m. Nov. 23 andDec. 21.
Contra dancing is a combination of the
aspects of square dancing ans swing
dancing and all ages and experience lev-
els arewelcome.
Dancers should wear comfortable
clothing and clean, indoor, smooth-soled
shoes. Danceswill end at 4 p.m.
The cost for general admission is $10
and $8 for students. The cost for a family
is $20, or $15 with a Northville Historical
Societymembership.

Free heart screenings set
Oakwood Healthcare and Wayne
Senior Services will offer free Heart
Health Screening to everyone who is 18
years and older from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Nov. 26.
Blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose
and stroke risk assessment will be offered
at the Wayne Community Center, 4635
HoweRoad.
This will be in conjunction with the

Turkey Trot set inCanton
The 12th Annual Turkey Trot will take
place inCantonTownship onNov. 27.
The event is a fundraiser to help fight
epilepsy.

Nutcracker to be presented
The Northville Ballet Theatre will
present The Nutcracker and other
Christmas dances at 7 p.m. Saturday,
Nov. 29 and at 3 p.m. Sunday Nov. 30 at
Northville High School, 45700 Six Mile
Road.
Tickets for the production are now on
sale and are priced at $15 for adults and
at $10 for senior citizens and children 12
and younger. Group discounts are also
available.
