Latawiec most likely received
the majority of the 502 votes cast
for a write-in by voters. Latawiec
joined the race as awrite-in after
the filing deadline in an effort to
offer an option to voters in an
uncontested race with four can-
didates for four seats.
The winners will join current
commission members Suzi Deal,
ColleenPobur andMikeWright.
Both Mayor Dan Dwyer and
Commissioner Joseph Valenti
opted not to seek re-election to
the commission this year.
The Plymouth District Library is
again collecting photos of veterans and
active military personnel for the tradi-
tional "HonoringOur Veterans" display.
Photos can be emailed to print@ply-
mouthlibrary.org The library staff can
also scan original photos upon request.
No personal information will be dis-
playedwith the photographs.
Following the 2016 display, the
Plymouth Library was recognizedwith a
Certificate of Appreciation for
Outstanding Chapter Support by the
Association of the United States Army
(AUSA).
Plymouth resident Jim Burrows is
one of the leaders of the Arsenal of
DemocracyChapter of theAUSA.
"The library has greatly enhanced our
chapter's ability to provide continued
support to veterans and familymembers
of the America's military. We have been
very pleased with theNovember display
at the library," he said.
The library display will also feature a
"white
table"
in
November.
Traditionally, the table is set with a
white tablecloth, a black napkin, white
candle, and a plate with a slice of lemon
and salt. An empty chair leans against
the table. The display is modeled after
the table in the children's book
America's White Table, written by
Margot Theis Raven and illustrated by
Mike Benny. It is available for check-out
at the library.
The tradition, little known to the gen-
eral public, of setting an empty table
with a white tablecloth in remembrance
of prisoners of war and those missing in
action, began with a group of fighter
pilots who flew in Vietnam. What was
started by the Red River Valley Fighter
Pilots Association, the so-called River
Rats of Vietnam - has, during the inter-
vening years, spread to other branches
of the military where remembrance
tables, or "missing-man tables", are set
when units or commands gather for din-
ners or reunions.
For more information about the dis-
play, call (734) 453-0750, ext 4. The
library is located at 223 South Main St.
inPlymouth.
