The Wayne Goodfellows will
host the 28th Annual Fundraiser
for the group from5:30 until mid-
night Dec. 5 at the Wayne
Community Center, 4635 Howe
Road inWayne.
Every year, the Wayne
Goodfellows provides food, toys,
and emergency assistance for the
residents of Wayne. Last year, the
groupwas able to helpmore than
200 families throughout the year
and also supported various local
organizations that provide sup-
port for the less fortunate in the
community, noted Jennifer
Gietzen, president of the
Goodfellows in a prepared
release.
“Our funds are raised by
employee groups, merchants and
service organizations that have
Christmas fundraisers, sell raffle
tickets, Christmas bulbs and
other items for donations. Most
of the funds raised come from
the items donated to these
groups so they may auction or
raffle them at their Christmas
fundraising activities,” she
added.
The Wayne Goodfellows is a

and all donations are tax
deductible. Donations can also
be made through PayPal at

al groups are soliciting and the
need is serious again this year.

The City of Westland and Habitat for
Humanity Western Wayne County cele-
brated the dedication of the first Habitat
home built for a local disabled veteran on
VeteransDay, Nov. 11. The home is located
at 4770Matthew inWestland.
The veteran selected to live in the
home, currently a Wayne resident, is a
Ford Motor Co. retiree and served in the
UnitedStatesMarines.
Westland has a history of successful
projects partnering with Habitat for
Humanity Western Wayne County, noted
Mayor William Wild. With the completion
of this home, Habitat for Humanity efforts
include the renovation of four houses and
the construction of five new Westland
houses since 2009.
“Rather than demolishing a useful
structure, the city forged a partnership
with Habitat for Humanity as part of our
Neighborhood Stabilization efforts in the
historic Annapolis Park subdivision,” said
Wild.
The city acquired the property in 2013
through the Wayne County tax foreclo-
sure. At that time, that address was the
most blighted house in Annapolis Park,
with the siding gone, a collapsing garage,
and extensive overgrowth in the backyard,
Wild said.
Wild, city council members and other
city staff members attended the dedica-
tion ceremony which was attended by
members of the community.
“I'm proud that our community will be
the home of the local Habitat for
Humanity's first house built for a veteran,”
added Wild. “Since our first Habitat part-
nership five years ago, we have done great
work together to build stronger neighbor-
hoods inWestland.”
