Members of the Westland City
Council approved a 10-year tax
abatement for US Farathane Corp.
at theOct. 7 regularmeeting.
US Farathane Corp. is a high-
tech manufacturer of injection-
molded, compression-molded, and
extruded products for numerous
customer segments, including the
automotive industry. The company
has nine facilities, seven of which
and located throughout Michigan.
The Westland facility is located at
39200 Ford Road in Westland and
employs approximately 185 full-
timeworkers.
Utilizing the tax incentive, the
company will be making a $4.5 mil-
lion investment at the Westland
facility. Manufacturing equipment
will cost $3.8 million and $700,000
will be used on an expansion of the
building, according to the
Farathane application for the tax
abatement. This expansion will
create 10 new jobs and the invest-
ment will create $60,750 innewrev-
enue, according to the Farathane
application.
The tax abatement status allows
USFarathane to seek both real and
personal property tax abatements.
“With this abatement, US
Farathane will be able to expand
its Westland compression molding
parts production and stimulate
local economic growth, while creat-
ing new jobs,” saidWestlandMayor
WilliamWild.
“US Farathane is excited about
the expansion of its Westland man-
ufacturing location. The increase
in automotive demand and the
improvement in the economy have
increased the demand in the man-
ufacturing sector. The City of
Westland has been very supportive
of our expansion plans and has
been a great business partner over
the years,” stated Richard L.
Knappe, CFOof USFarathane.
