Goodfellows plan event
The Wayne Goodfellows will host the
28th Annual Fundraiser for the group
from 5:30 until midnight Dec. 5 at the
Wayne Community Center, 4635 Howe
Road inWayne.
Every year, the Wayne Goodfellows
provides food, toys, and emergency assis-
tance for the residents of Wayne. Last
year, the group was able to help more
than 200 families throughout the year and
also supported various local organiza-
tions that provide support for the less for-
tunate in the community, noted Jennifer
Gietzen, president of the Goodfellows in a
prepared release.
“Our funds are raised by employee
groups, merchants and service organiza-
tions that have Christmas fundraisers, sell
raffle tickets, Christmas bulbs and other
items for donations. Most of the funds
raised come from the items donated to
these groups so they may auction or raffle
themat their Christmas fundraising activ-
ities,” she added.
The Wayne Goodfellows is a 502 © 3
certified organization and all donations
are tax deductible. Donations can also be
made through PayPal at waynegoodfel-
lows.org.
Gietzen urged residents who have any
questions to contact her for verification of
the person soliciting donations for the
Goodfellows. She said that several groups
are soliciting and the need is serious
again this year.
“Thank you in advance for your assis-
tance in making this Christmas full of
fond memories for all by insuring that
there is No Child in the City of Wayne
Without aChristmas,” she concluded.
Tickets for the Dec. 5 event are priced
at $25 per person and include a dinner
buffet, dessert, soft drinks and an entry

fect infection prevention procedures at
all of its hospitals, however, in the unlike-
ly case that a patient with Ebola-like
symptoms is transported or arrives there.
They are also working with their new col-
leagues at Beaumont Health to imple-
ment a strategy at Beaumont and
Botsfordhospitals.
Ebola is only spread through direct
contact with bodily fluids of people who
have been exposed to the virus and are
showing symptoms. It is not airborne. The
standard procedure is to isolate patients
suspected of the Ebola virus until proven
otherwise.
The only confirmed cases of Ebola in
the U.S. have been reported in Texas,
with one fatality. However, Cristy Rankin,
emergency management coordinator for
Oakwood, said it's important to practice
procedures because there are other high-
ly-communicable diseases that are not as
rare and they are not always easy to
detect.
“We have to be prepared for anything,”
she said. “Oakwood staff regularly con-
ducts drills to ensure the highest level of
safety for the communities we serve. This
is a large effort for us throughout our sys-
tem to make sure our staff is as prepared
andwell-trained as possible.”
Each Oakwood hospital performs at
least two drills a year with various scenar-
ios to ensure staff are educated, trained
and prepared to handle any emergent sit-
uation.
Oakwood is continuing to refine an
Ebola response plan in the wake of grow-
ing concerns about the spread of the
virus, a hospital spokesman stressed.
