ESTLAND
Westland plans official
dedication of new building
Halloween events begin tomorrow
Council OK’s purchase of trucks
The official dedication of the
new Westland City Hall is
planned for 5:30 p.m. Oct. 27.
Mayor William R. Wild, mem-
bers of the city council, city
department heads and other
officials will be on hand for the
ceremony which is open to the
public.
Following the dedication an
open house will take place from
6-7:30 p.m. at the city hall locat-
ed at 36300WarrenRoad.
The City of Westland has
already moved the municipal
offices into the new Warren
Road location which is the for-
mer Circuit City. The special
dedication ceremony and open
house - will include trick or
treating.
“The move to our new city
hall is an historic event for our
All-American City,” said “For the
first time in almost 50 years,
municipal services will be con-
ducted in a new, state-of-the-art,
welcoming and ADA-compliant
facility.”
The retrofitted 64,000-square-
foot facility, ideally located in
the heart of Westland's “Shop
and Dine” district, is a $10 mil-
lion retrofit of a long vacant
commercial building, funded
with tax revenues generated by
the city Tax Increment Finance
Authority. This move will result
in a more functional city hall,
with five times the space, allow-
ing The Department of Public
Service administration, the
building and planning depart-
ments, the Youth Assistance
Program and the city cable
department, WLND, to join the
current city hall departments
under one roof.
“We have already received a
great positive response on the
new building,” added Wild. “I
am excited for the community to
come together for this special
evening and see the improve-
ments in the new city hall for
themselves.”
The countdown to Halloween
is in full swing and Wayne
County Parks is offering a dou-
ble dose of spooktastic fun.
"As a father and now a grand-
father, I know how memorable
and fun Halloween is for fami-
lies," said Wayne County
Executive Robert Ficano. "I
invite the public to participate
in our Halloween Forest Fun
Hike and Halloween Festival
and create their own special
memories."
The county will host
Halloween Forest Fun Hike on
Friday, Oct. 17which includes an
hour-long, guided hike. The hike
is ideal for children who can
dress in costumes to enjoy this
outdoor Halloween event. There
will be "not-so-scary" funny for-
est dwellers with surprises in
store for the night hikers. Hikes
begin on the grounds of Nankin
Mills in Westland. Afterwards,
guests will meet intriguing live
creatures from around the
world during an indoor presen-
tation.
Participants must pre-regis-
ter as event space is limited.
Pick starting times of 6, 6:30, 7
or 7:30 p.m. The cost is $6 per
child, $2 per adult for Wayne
County residents. For out of
county residents, costs are $7
per child and $30 per adult. Call
(734) 261-1990 to register.
The county will host a
Halloween Festival from 1-3
p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. Bring the
whole family to enjoy an after-
noon of free games and activi-
ties at the Hines Park-Nankin
Mills Picnic Area. Children
dressed in costumes are wel-
come. This event includes
hayrides, inflatables, a costume
parade, games, trick-or-treating,
entertainment andmuchmore.
The Hines Park-Nankin Mills
Area is located on Hines Drive,
east of Ann Arbor Trail in
Westland.

or any other Wayne County
Parks

Residents will soon see five
new 2015 F-350 multipurpose
trucks hitting the streets in
Westland.
During the regular meeting of
the city council members last
week, members approved the
purchase of the five trucks from
Westland-based North Brothers
Ford, whichwill be used for park
and city property maintenance,
as well as year round roadmain-
tenance.
During thewintermonths, the
trucks will be outfitted with
snow plows and salt spreaders.
“Each year, we look for ways to
deliver improved services to tax-
payers,” said Mayor William
Wild.
“The purchase of these small-
er trucks will allow us to more
effectively plow and salt neigh-
borhood streets which proved to
be challenging with the record
Breaking snowfall received in
2014.”
