Carol Maise, who has nearly
three decades of municipal plan-
ning experience, has been hired by
the City of Romulus as a part-time
city planner.
Maise, who begins her new job
today, will prepare planning and
zoning reports, coordinate develop-
ment reviews with other depart-
ments and consultants, make pre-
sentations to the public and city
officials and provide research for
major projects.
She also will provide technical
assistance to residents, contractors
and staff about planning and zon-
ing issues, codes and ordinances,
development review procedures,
site plan reviews, permit fees and
other issues.
Romulus
Economic
Development Director Timothy
Keyes said Maise's experience in
municipal work made her an ideal
choice for the position. She has
served the city as a consultant for
the past nine years in her role as a
senior planner with LSL Planning
Inc., a Royal Oak-based firm con-
sidered a leader in the field of com-
munity planning.
“Carol's expertise as a planner is
significant,” Keyes said. “We were
very familiar with her work and
knew that she could hit the ground
running. We welcome her to our
economic development team.”
Since earning a masters degree
in urban planning from the
University of Michigan in 1983,
Maise has been a planning analyst
for SEMCOG, the Southeast
Michigan Council of Governments;
an urban planner for the Wayne
County Office of Public Services;
planning director for Northville
Township and a planning consult-
ant for REMAssociates. She joined
the staff at LSL in 1998.
A Northville resident, Maise is a
member of the city planning com-
mission, board of zoning appeals
and building and planning adviso-
ry board. She also chairs the
Northville
Downtown
Development
Parking
Subcommittee.
She is active at First
Presbyterian Church of Northville
and theNorthvilleCivicConcern.
Here she is…Miss Wayne
County.
The 20th Miss Wayne County
will be crowned during 5 p.m. cer-
emonies Sept. 10 at Churchill High
School inLivonia.
Twelve young women will be
vying for the honor, which
includes a $500 scholarship
award.
“We are very pleased with the
number of intelligent, ambitious
and talented young women who
have entered the competition,”
said Executive Director Sheila
Sigro. “With the number of out-
standing contestants, it will be a
challenging task for the judges to
choose the next Miss Wayne
County.”
Contestants will compete in five
phases of competition including
private interview, on-stage ques-
tion, physical fitness in swimsuit,
talent, and evening gown. During
the competition, each contestant
will also discuss her chosen plat-
form, a social or community issue
of concern to herself and our soci-
ety at large.
The Romulus Downtown
Development Authority and the City

ribbon cutting and grand opening of
the pavilion at Romulus Historical
Park at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 7.
The pavilion is located at 11147
Hunt St. inRomulus.
It won't take a trip into down-
town Detroit to see some of the
world's greatest art.
Next month, Belleville resi-
dent will be able to view repro-
ductions of seven the best known
masterpieces in their own com-
munity.
The Detroit Institute of Arts
selected Belleville as part of the

80 reproductions from the muse-
um collection to the streets and
parks of metro Detroit and sur-
rounding communities.
The program is now in the sec-
ond year and has proved very
successful, according to a

In Belleville, the Downtown
Development Authority has
selected Horizon Park, Pro
Hardware, the Belleville
Historical Museum, the Bayou
Grill, Higgerson & Neal Funeral
Home, Belleville Milling and
BellevilleCityHall as sites for the
artworks.
The DIA spokesperson indi-
cated that the framed artworks
are usually clustered within
